Care home non refundable deposit. Miksled

Just after some advice for a friend.
His Mum is in a private care home which is closing down so nees to move. Having found a new one he paid a £1000 non refundable deposit to secure a place. This was based on the information that was given to him about costs, benefits etc.
Now my friend thinks they may not be able to afford it due to the fact they were given misleading information.

The home says the deposit is non refunable, my friend understands that but believes he was given wrong and misleading information which led to him handing over the deposit.

If they can not afford it and need to look elsewhere is there anything he can do?

What was the wrong and misleading info he was given? If it was materially misleading, he may be able to obtain a refund.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
