Rather than posting hypotheticals what are you trying to hide here?Thinking critically since 1996....0

I am not trying to hide anything. I just wanna know what answers they will accept without the need to provide someone's personal bank details. The guy doesn't feel comfortable because it is unusual for banks to ask for name, address, bank name and card numbers, not that he is hiding anything, plus he doesn't feel comfortable giving his long card number to me.0

Yet every time you purchase something online those are exactly the details you type into the computer, which is going to be far less secure than giving details to the bank.
Is that long number without the security code on the back actually any use to you? You can do more damage with the sort code and account number (just ask that guy from Top Gear).
Honestly, I'd not get so hung up about it, make an appointment with the bank and go in with your friend so you won't even have to know the details. I think you're making a big deal out of the situation when you don't need to. The bank are just trying to protect themselves from money laundering.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

The point is though that it isn't for the OP to get annoyed about, its for the person who gave him the money, the OP is just stuck between a rock and a hard place.
If I paid someone for something in cash and they then came back to me asking me for my full name, address, and card number, not to mention my bank account number and sort code (ie all the details needed to totally and utterly rip me off) and told me it's because "their bank has asked for it" my answer would end in "off" and have a very rude word in front of it, or start with "get", and likewise with the rude word.0 -

Then tell your bank what you do know, and tell them what 'the guy' has said to you, and see what response you get. It may be suficient, it may not. There are no hard and fast rules, each bank has its own take on how best to implement the anti-laundering measures. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Can I ask why it wasnt done via bank transfer ?0

i received cash from the person therefore had to take it to bank. He gave me money from his safe.
I am still couldn't get a satisfactory response to my question.
I want to know what answers they will accept without the need to provide someone's personal bank details.0 -
Money in safe - not prepared to give info to bank - £8k in cash ..... it's not looking good is it ?
OP, no-one here can tell you what to say to the bank. But whatever you tell them, it has to be the truth. And tell your "friend" it's not unusual for banks to ask these questions.0 -

I've answered this as best as we can in post #16. As others have also said, go talk to the bank as only they will know. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
