HUGE BG final bill after switching - help!

Thanks brewerdave. I've double checked the final readings and they seem to be correct (they match what I gave). Our payments went up from £79 to £114 and now £150 since January.
But I don't understand how have accrued so much debt. If we genuinely do owe it then we need help paying it off in chunks as we don't have that money spare.
I'd like to complain to BG but I'm not entirely sure where the mistake lies, we are endeavouring to get to bottom of it.
teepee83 what happened in your case?
Thanks everyone.
The harsh reality of the situation is the energy has been used, and needs to be paid for.
It's hard to tell without seeing your bill history for the 18 months, but let's assume for the sake of argument your "real" usage is £130-140 a month, it doesn't take too long before the debt builds up to the levels you're seeing. Ignore what other people are using; the setup in your house may be very different.
You can complain that BG didn't put your payments up - write a letter headed complaint. They may knock a token gesture off your bill, £50 would be at the high end. However, you have meters in your house, and the bill you receive every 3 months would have shown that payments were not meeting consumption. Some responsibility lies with the consumer - if you're paying £79 a month for energy, try to only use that much. Good luck.0 -
Thanks for all your advice on this everyone.
Is anyone able to explain how energy companies set monthly payments? To me it seems to be to their advantage to keep you paying under what you owe, so to be in their debt at all times, and also puts people off leaving as they will be landed (as I have) with a mega bill to pay...
They have also put prices up but kept monthly payments the same, which to me seems disingenuous.0 -

You have meters, you know what your daily standing charge is and how much each kWh unit is costing you, so why can't you simply calculate the cost of your actual usage yourself?
Why is buying energy so different to buying items at the supermarket! You have to pay for what you have had.
You know that prices have increased and there was nothing preventing you telling your supplier how much your DD needed to be to ensure that it covered your actual usage, I always have.
It's far too easy to simply blame the supplier, take some responsibility yourself. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I'm afraid it lies with you. Bg, and I expect most others, have a button on their website which will tell you if you appear to be paying too much or too little to clear your balance at the end of your 12 month contract and will suggest an alteration if it looks like you're over / under paying. The credit facility they offer with the fixed monthly payment is an account perk, a more accurate alternative is a pay on receipt of bill account.0 -
I agree with Ollski
As a BG customer I love the website and the App. It lets me see at anytime if my readings are correct and how much debit or credit I am in. It tells if you should change the DD amount too and whether you will be left with a debit or credit at the end of the 12 month payment plan.
For all the people that post online, why do they not use the suppliers website to manage their bills? I have changed my DD up and down and arranged refunds all through the website.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
