Traders give you that as an added incentive to do a deal and the majority of which will be covered by the insurer in their marketing budget.
No one will do it on a private sale. Why not just arrange insurance before you collect it?0 -
The dealer buys the insurance, its free to you, not totally free.
You can do the same if you really wanted, you could ask the seller to buy you insurance with a temporary cover insurer like tempcover but this will be expensive for them as they dont have the buying power of a major motor manufacturer/ trader etc0 -
Is there any reason you can't just insure it properly?
You can get temp cover added onto most policies for a nominal fee (I added one to mine for about £20 for the week to bring a new car home), and you can get temp cover from a specialist for a little bit more.
If it's just to get it home before not insuring it (say if you're SORNing it for a while to do work on it); you might be cheaper getting the car delivered.
If it's just to give you time to get a better deal on insurance - do the leg work and get a quote agreed before viewing and phoning from there to activate it, or look at it, hand over a deposit, sort the insurance and go back. Getting temp cover will cost you more in the long run anyway.0 -
If you bought an HPI check from HPI direct they always used to give you 7 days free insurance, seems they only offer this to traders now.0

Was hoping to find a HPI service that provides 7 days insurance.
Currently i have a vehicle which is fully insured and using my no claims bonus...
So wanted to sell my current car first and then transfer the ncb to the new vehicle...
so i guess the only option i have is to insure the vehicle with no ncb and then one ive sold my car then nofiy the insurance company to add the no claims to my account...
is that the best to go about it.0 -
Your insurer can add a temporary car onto the policy for a few weeks for a minimal fee. Certainly much less than taking out a 2nd policy.0

The alternative is to use a temporary insurance company or leave your current car uninsured, if you have a driveway or garage to put it on.0 -
Alternatively speak to your current insurer, they may be able to help with a temporary overlap of cover. It's quite a common situation.0

Norwich Union used to do 7 days free if you got an insurance quote from them. Not sure if they still do though..0
