Incorrect Default (Orange) on Credit Report

Hi Guys,

Hope you are all well.

Need a bit of advice regarding what I believe to be an incorrect default shown on my Equifax credit report.

The report shows 2 accounts both with Orange, one running from September 2010 to the present day, with no more than one month payment late. The second shows an account running from March 2012, to August 2012 going from one month payment late, through to a Default in August, with the Default/Delinquent Balance shown as £10, and the file being last updated on 05/09/2012!

Firstly, I have never had two accounts with EE running concurrently (!), and also have never been In debt with them to the amount as shown below. They have also never written to me to notify me of the suspected default which I find quite shocking.

Regardless, the report shows one account with next to no issues, and one with a Default? As above, this has never been the case.

I have written to Orange/EE, last Monday and received a response this morning, which reads as follows:

Thank you for your recent email.

£ 36.88 is still outstanding. Could you please pay this amount as soon as possible.

You can make a payment by calling us on 07973 100178 or alternately write a cheque payable to Orange Pcs and send it to the following address:

EE Payment Processing
PO Box 52
Sheffield
S98 1DX

As soon as you’ve paid, we’ll update your credit record accordingly.

Now, this confuses matters even further. Obviously, the amount shown differs, however they have not clarified the situation any further whatsoever?

Does anybody have any advice as I am losing my marbles with these guys, and later in the year I will be applying for a mortgage. My report is currently showing as Poor, and this is the only blot on the whole report which is so irritating considering the rest of the report is spotless.

Thanks in advance, J

What did you say in the letter you wrote to them?

Did you say you had noticed an account on your credit file that you have no knowledge of and ask for proof of the account and the alleged outstanding debt?

Yes, requested copies of all paperwork regarding to the default, no knowledge of it, saying I believed they were in breach of their duty of care, their Data Controller has issued incorrect data in reference to the debt outstanding, yadda yadda.

Two separate phone lines so im assuming you still had an outstanding balance on your old phone bill that still needed to be paid.

I only switched to EE last month as part of my upgrade, so I don't think that can be the case?

You could either repsond to the email to point out that they haven't answered your queries and that you dispute that the account on your credit file is anything to do with you and so are requesting from them proof of the alleged debt.

Or you could abandon email and write them a proper letter starting afresh and stating that you require proof of the alleged debt or for them to remove the entry from your credit file. You could use some of the wording from the prove it letter template (although you need to change the wording to reflect that you noticed it on your credit file rather than them having sent you a letter) Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter

You could email them at: creditfilequery@everythingeverywhere.com with your concerns

Thanks guys, I have the "creditfilequery" email address which is the one I have - which is proving to be fruitless.

I'll keep you updated, thanks again.
  • Hi, I have the same problem and I think it comes from the time when orange swapped me over to EE.

Did you manage to solve this problem?

If so any advice would be gratefully received.

    Thank you
