Hi I want to take my family on the above but not want to pay though the nose for a short trip but want to make a day of it if possible

Sightseeing where exactly ?
If you're talking of London, buy a Thames Clipper river roamer (£16.50) for unlimited travel for the day on the Clippers (You wont get a commentary though).

yes i live in Hendon NW9 and if possible with commentary as i to have forgotten names of famous sight in London0 -

City Cruises boats have commentaries - you can get a daily Red Rover hop-on hop-off ticket for them too if you want to make a day of it. I don't think they go as far up and down the river as the Clippers though (with the clippers you can get all the way from Woolwich to Vauxhall by using the Tate-to-Tate service - I think the city cruises only cover Westminster to Greenwich)
