OH Daft Idea Vent

Tell me if I'm being nuts here!
OH has decided he wants to do a 26 mile sponsored walk for charity. All well and good, I'm all for it, until he told me he's planning on taking the dog along with him. Pooch is a year old King Charles, unused to walking more than around 3 miles at a time, let alone 26 in one day!
OH is in training for it yet never considered it might just be a bit much for the poor dog to just be expected to cover that kind of distance with no training/conditioning whatsoever.
I suggested some sort of stroller he could put pooch in when the wee fella gets tired and got pouted at.
How on earth did he expect a wee dog to manage 26 miles in a day? God knows I'm far from being clever but common sense is sadly lacking in my OH at times.
Sorry, just needed a vent!
I feel a bit less stressed now!

Don't let him take the dog, however much of a strop he throws. A brachycephalic breed like a KC could really suffer if overexercised.0

Oh don't worry I won't. He's been told how stupid a plan it is. Just annoyed me he didn't stop to even think about it then pouted at me when it was pointed out. Pooch will go in a nice little stroller with lots of water or not at all.0 -

I'd be wary of letting him take her even with the stroller, he seems reluctant to use it and might think its too embarrassing and just leave it in the car.
Has he done any googling on the dangers of over-exercising dogs?0 -

Hmm you might be right. I don't THINK he'd do anything stupid with him, they're nuts about each other, but you never know I guess. I'll send him some links about over-exercising and if I'm in any doubt that he'll be sensible pooch will stay home with me. That or I'll bribe someone to go along with him and make sure pooch has a nice relaxing time in the buggy!
Taking all my patience not to yell at him today so I'll wait 'til I calm down a bit!0 -

Depends on the breed (and dog). I used to regularly run (just) over 10 miles with our Mills (Lab/springer cross), of course 10 miles to me probably meant about 14-15 miles to him. I remember one day when we had just come back from such a run, I took his lead out of the drawer to put it back in the car, when he saw me the lead he leapt up off his duvet wagging his tail as if he hadn't been out for week.
It's Mills anniversary today (the day that we got him) so Ozzie is getting plenty treats, I made him a beef stew last night.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
Our Cavalier does about 4 to 5 miles a day in 2 stints, and will sleep it off the rest of the day (Knackered would be one word for it)
I fancied taking him fell walking in the lakes, but I'm not stupid so I won't.0 -

A lab/springer cross and a KC are very different!
My poodle could run all day, he's on springs and he's descended from working dogs, but my bichon has short legs, a short nose and was bred to be a lap dog. He can't really do much more than an hour at a time before he gets exhausted and wants to sleep.
Hope Ozzie enjoys his stew, lucky dog!0 -

Yeah I guessed from what people were saying about KC's that they don't seem to be compatible with lengthy runs that's why I started off by saying it depends upon the dog and breed.
Ozzie loved the stew, but with him being a lab its very hard to tell as he loves eating EVERYTHING. It is actually Ozzie's (first) anniversary with us in 2 weeks so I'll be making it again for him.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
OP this link explains things - maybe your OH could read it?I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

It wouldn't be a walk where he walks at night and wears a certain piece of lady's underwear would it?
