Landlord Insurance - Confused.com & GoCompare.com

Options
Hi All,

Newbie to this forum.

I was shopping around for a cheap Landlords building insurance for a 2 bed flat I rent out.

I decided to look at confused.com and filled in the questionaire for the best possibly search results. It came back with sorry we have not found any suitable companies, however our agent from "Your Insurance" will call you shortly to discuss.

I smelt a big rat here, I looked at "Your Insurance" and noticed it was owned by "Towergate Insurance".

I then researched further to see if their was any associations or tie ups. Low and behold I found on the Insurance Age Portal.

"Towergate Insurance has announced that it is to become the SOLE provider of business insurance for price comparison site Confused.com "

So to a novice like me thinking I will get a few quotes from confused.com is in fact a backdoor straight to "Towergate Insurance" and when that call comes we would NOT think its a business to business tie up.

I then did gocompare.com and again the same - they have an affillation with "Simply Business" for all Landlord and buisness insurance.

I just wanted everyone to know that you may not be getting a choice of comparisons. So tread carefully.

Thx

Did you really believe that the comparison sites were toally independant, with no commission ot other incentives from any insurers!

    Always shop around extensively!

Towergate (and presumably Simply Business) are brokers, evidently confussed have decided to use Towergate as the brokers for commercial lines. (Landlords are typically considered as business rather than personal customers)

AFAIA lots of these annoyingly advertised comparison sites are either owned by each other, by large insurance companies, or are trading styles of brokerages.
    IANAL etc.

If you don't mind me asking, isn't the buildings insurance arranged by the freeholder and paid for via the leaseholder service charge?

I use Lockyer Insurance - much better "value" going through a broker - you have them on side as and when you need it - and as it is btl it can be much more complicated
