Wed 9th April - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending

    Check swapits -
Packed lunch for DH & DS - Done
Catch up on emails (& unsubscribe from any no longer wanted) -
    Catch up on Adpoints -
Look at surveys in inbox -
List few bits for sale/freecycle -
    Few comps -
Read book (I must not start a library book before I have finished this so best crack on) -
    Check www.freepostcodelottery.com -
    Update here -

Have a great day, love you all xx

Oooh, you're early into action this morning, Ziggy. Hope your cold improves....& can't you just depend on totm to rock up when you're already feeling rubbish?! :-/
    Today I will:
*Line dry laundry (washed overnight on cheap tariff)
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch & breakfast.
*Continue knitting my latest project for the present box.
*Make dough for bread rolls & tonight's pizza.
*Check this month's meal plans & write shopping list.
*Try to book delivery slot for online grocery order (Mr f received an email offering him £10 off a £50 spend, free delivery & triple nectar points, which seems too good an offer to ignore).
*Pot up 2 more trays of seedlings (free seeds) & water all baby veggie plants.
*Start digging out runner bean trench if time.....that can be today's free fitness.
*My 'Use it up' campaign still ongoing. Currently using up oddments of room scenting stuff that's been chucked in a drawer rather than start new things, using up a herbal supplement I bought as a tincture before buying it in more palatable tablet form, still using weird lip gloss to get rid of it & am on 3rd use of 'empty' hair conditioner bottle after just adding a bit of water to it & shaking it up. It's good not to feel so wasteful, just throwing stuff away. There IS no 'away', is there, just landfill, which is over full with all our cr*p already, as well as polluting. I'm finding it really satisfying doing 'Use it up'!
OK, must start on above list.

    Morning all! :j

    DFW things I'm doing today:
    • Coffee at home instead of buying one (£2.40ish saving)
    • Brought lunch from home
    • Set washing off this morning so it has time to line dry instead of using the dryer
    • Left all of the lights off when getting ready this morning as it was light enough
Good so far however I have forgot to bring a snack with me today so may need to grab some crisp or fruit at lunchtime so may have a £1 spend today which I could have avoided so teaches me to be better organised tomorrow!

    well done all!

Tiggy10 you've reminded me I must go to my gym tonight to find out when I can cancel (locked in for a year) - it's costing me £42 a month and I think the last time I used it was early February!

    Morning all
I am in the garden this morning giving it a spring tidy.
Cut back next doors shrub expecting her to come out to complain as she is at home. The shrub was over hanging our drive at the front. We need that space to get out of the car without wet branches in the rain.

Right, off to sweep the decking before I get told I am sitting down.
A few loads have gone up the recycle centre.

Lots of washing on the line.

Just looking at OH pools coupons on the table. He wastes £10 every week on that and O if I should win! ;(. I have pointed out many times that is £520 a year.
People HAVE to want to listen though!
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

    Hi all

Really need to rejoin you, I still have almost £1200 left on my 0% credit card to pay off by December (used it to buy my annual train pass so it's not 'real' debt as it was cheaper to do this than buy a monthly pass - but it will be if I can't pay it off before the 0% ends, or if I need to buy a new annual pass with this debt still existing!)

Also just generally need to rein in my spending, especially on food, and especially now as we have just had our kitchen ripped out, we were told 3-4 days for it to be fitted but they uncovered a massive damp problem, so will be a few weeks before it's sorted. The issue is - all our food is packed away, because we were going to just have ready meals for the 3 nights we were affected! Argh! Thankfully the oven is still in at the moment but we have no sink (apart from bathroom) and only a small student fridge, so I am googling one pot meals to avoid having loads of washing up!

So. Here are my things for today:

    1. Research one pot meals - found a few that won't need many additional ingredients to the ones we still have accessible to us!

    2. Check bank account - all ok

    3. Overtime - will go in pot for next year's holiday

    4. Breakfast, lunch and dinner from stores (hopefully, although may buy chicken for this or may substitute with mushrooms which will be cheaper) - had to buy a bottle of water on the way to the train though as all empty bottles recycled in advance of new kitchen and reusables packed away :(

    5. Search for vouchers online.

    6. Free Waitrose coffee and free Stylist/Shortlist magazines for train home

    7. Pick up free L'Occitane cream

    8. Charge phone and iPod at work.

I think that's everything. Have happy DFW days all xx

  • Hello all,
I'm logged in so it must be lunchtime! Here are my DFW things today:
*Always bring food from home, crackers and tuna today (love my soups but sometimes need something with a bit more bite). That said, OH texted to say he forgot his packed lunch. Both sons at home today and son 2 had (by 11am) already spotted the lunch and eaten the lot!
*I left instructions for sons to hang out the washing (they often forget and you should see the state of it when they do - but at least it gets dried).
*Son 1 has promised to make something good for tea with the veggies in the fridge.
*Taking photos of stuff for eBay this evening
*Checked bank accounts and spread sheet
*Am going to contact the friend I'm supposed to be meeting in town for lunch tomorrow (taking leave until next Wednesday) and asking if she wants to come to mine instead.
*Also going to look up boosting income tips and getting freebies on here - would love to know how to get free seeds foxgloves?
Hope you all enjoy the rest of the day :)
