I live in a rural area which the Internet is very poor. A company called gigaclear are currently installing ultra fast broadband now but looking at there pricesthey sstart at minimum £50. Does this mean companies like talktalk or plusnetaaren't avaliable? CAN'T afford there prices0
-
If you look at their 'Compare our Costs', you'll see their cheaper package of £39.90. Which includes line rental.0

Bit more than I wanted to pay. Other providers packages are cheaper with inclusive calls and static ip which I need.0
-
But other providers aren't offering those kind of speeds where you are. You going to pay a bit more for a premium I'm afraid.0

If you want faster internet, you pay the price for whatms available in your areas.0

If you can get some from of ADSL broadband, however slow, from BT, then you can also get it from Plusnet. Same group, same network. Or from any other non-LLU provider.
TT are an LLU service and there are probably no LLU providers on your small rural exchange, find out by doing an exchange search on samknows.com. Or post the name of your exchange.
If ADSL is too slow and FTTC is not available, then your options are mobile broadband via a dongle, or one of the options such as Gigaclear, which is a private local cable network. Satellite broadband will probably be the most expensive option.
Bear in mind that there is both an installation and a connection fee.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Beware of gigaclear.
Customer services very poor dont respond on difficult issues like poor broadband. This information is based on a 100gb fibre package
They are great if you are building a new house or can hardwire your house.
If you are planning to use wifi then their signal is VERY POOR poor its fine if your 3 feet from the router then output is 30gb ten feet your are down to 20gb and any further 100gb. but after that it rapidly loses strength and if their are more than two of you using it then the first user will be ok the second will be slow and the 3rd user forget about it. i.e. if your are not in the same room its not going to worth it.
I used to have a 6gb std BT service the wifi strength was consistant to everyone and therefore better.
Solution is paying £100's of pounds for wiring or £60 to £80 for a decent wifi router and you might need 3 in a 3/4 bed house which will still need £100 to £150 wiring per router. i.e my house was £350 for wiring and £180 for boxes.
Installation costs are very high as well allow £200.
Stay with BT and make sure you get a BT hub 4 or 5 router.0 -
Im having lots of problems with gigaclear whose basic attitude is we provide the box with the required service speed in the box which you can use if you plug into it. Unfortunately the last few weeks im experiencing speeds of 1 to 3gb(from a 100gb service). The reason because my house isnt hard wired like 95% of the population i use WI-FI and thats the problem their router is very poor i.e. even the old BT hub 3 is better.
None of the above or the following is admitted by gigaclear or forms part of their marketing.
Customer services very poor do not respond on difficult issues like poor broadband. They pass you onto a 3rd party IT company!

If you are planning to use wifi then their signal is VERY POOR, its fine if your in line of site i.e. 3 feet from the router then output is 30gb ten feet your are down to 20gb and any further 10gb. But after that it rapidly loses strength and if their are more than two of you using the wifi then the first user will be ok the second will be slow and the 3rd user forget about it. i.e. if your are not in the same room its not going to worth bothering with GIGAclear its. Any solid walls makes it worse. You cant download SKYHD unless you ado it overnight as 5gb takes 3 hours. The last few saturdays ive been getting 1 to 3gb for periods of time for the second user.

If your lucky one new router at £60 to £80 may work in a small house or flat But the main solution is paying £100's of pounds for wiring or £60 to £80 for a decent wifi router and you will probably need 3 in a 3/4 bed house which will still need £100 to £150of wiring per router. i.e my house was £350 for wiring and £180 for boxes.
Initial installation costs are very high as well allow £200 if you are not adjacent to the road.0 -
If the WiFI is poor then its the router .
Buy a better router would be a workaround .0
