Sorry to hear things have been so rubbish for you.
    What I would do:
    1) get a new basic bank account - try Co-op or barclays. Make it clear that you require a basic bank account so no credit check. I believe sometimes banks will try and give you a normal bank account and then credit check you so make it really clear that you need one without any credit facilities. Try and get your new salary paid in here.
    2) Get to your current bank and explain that you need the money for rent and food. You may be able to apply for right of apportionment. Technically you are meant to tell the bank in advance that money is needed before it goes into the overdraft if you are going to do this but it is worth a shot. You may need to speak to a manager or put it in writing. You may also want to take a budget sheet with you and a suggestion of a repayment plan (as they will probably want some reassurance you will repay them).
    3) You can't pay everything back this month so you will need to prioritise. Firstly you need to pay your regular monthly bills and then work out how much you have to repay debt. I'd suggest that repaying your rent is a big priority. Have you told work you will repay the advance this month or was that just what you were hoping or is it all arranged? I'd either go for 50:50 with that and the rent or rent first I think. How supportive are your work? Could you sit down with them and give them a repayment plan - ie I'll repay 100 a month?
    4) In terms of food can you get some from your family? Do you belong to any churches or religious groups? Do you have a food bank in the area that would help you out? Perhaps a cab or similar could point you in the right direction?

I agree that you need to make paying your rent your priority. To do that you need to make sure that your next pay does not get swallowed up by your overdraft.

There are two banks that allow you to open a basic bank account without a credit check. Barclays cash account can only be opened in a branch. There are not that many in Scotland but you can search for a branch on their website to see if there is one close enough to you.
The Coop bank also operate a cashminder account that you can open in a branch or by phoning 08456027057 for an application form.
The quicker you get a new account opened the better, so that this month's salary can be paid in without fear of it being used to cover your overdraft.
Also depending on where you live, there will probably be a foodbank that could help you with emergency food supplies.

Now that you have taken the first step you will be able to sort this by getting help from one of the debt charities and the advice from this forum. Take care.

Yes, you really really need that new account. CoOp generally take anyone with a pulse, but Barclays can be pickier apparently. Who have you tried so far?

With regard to your SOA, I cant see what you income is?

In the meantime, your priority is your rent (and I assume council tax is in there somewhere because it isnt on your SOA) and then those PDLs. You have got to get rid of them, but before that, you need a new account where you can shelter what money you have. That new account is absolutely key to moving forwards with this. Once you have that, you need to them inform the PDLs of what is happening and start down the debt resolution tracks with them. Hopefully, they will freeze interest and charges so you can start to get control again.

Instead of ebay, you could use your local Facebook selling pages. This has the added advantage of not charging fees.

Do you have anything of worth that you could sell? Any old cupboards that you haven't looked in for a couple of years?

Well your certainly in the right place! Debt can be sorted whereas making yourself ill is a lot harder to fix..... trust me!

When I joined the board I was in the same position as you, losing sleep and not eating etc.

The good news is its nowhere near as bad it feels! Get a good tea tonight. Nice hot bath and watch something good on telly. Follow it all up with a nice relaxed sleep and tomorrow your debt free journey starts. The guys on here are so helpful (most of them) and I found it really really useful being on here :)

    Evening all,

Thanks for your messages with useful hints and tips, this forum has helped me so much this past few days, think I’m here to stay now. Sometimes it really helps to write things down, get a better perspective of what’s going on, as sometimes it’s hard to open up to the closest of friends and tell them what’s going on in your financial world.

The form is slightly better tonight. The sun was shining most of the day today, warm until the clouds covered up then it was time to get the fleece back out again. I always find it funny how the weather has such an impact on our moods. Wee bit of sun today brought out all the nutters in their shorts… Think I’ll wait a while for that carryon, there is still snow on the hills!!

The food situation isn’t that bad that I need a foodbank yet (there is plenty people who need it so much more than I do, and would rather that they got it), I started a meal replacement diet a few months ago for a family wedding, managed to shed a good few lbs, but bought it in bulk, so I thought instead of binning it, I was going to use it all as I really hate food waste, my major pet hate in life. I am just going through the craving motions these past few days (which I am ignoring all of), between quitting smoking and cutting out all junk food, if I had cash, I would of saved a blooming fortune… Typical!

Today has been a busy wee day, as well as working all day, I have contacted Barclaycard and made an appointment to visit the local branch (which I am going to do on Monday) and open up a cash card account. I have also contacted RBS and requested that all continuous payment authorities be stopped for payday loans, so all future Payday Loan Repayments should be cancelled. I have scheduled in a phone call with a debt advisor on Saturday morning.. Small steps, but for a change in the right direction.

My outstanding work sub that I owe, really needs paying back, it was meant to be paid back in February, So I have spoke to my boss and will pay back £185 back this month and can put £100 towards overdue rent payment, just need to come up with the other £300 now. I like a challenge… But not this much! Going to gather up all of what needs sold, and use local Facebook selling pages etc this weekend and see what I can get rid of.... Ahhhh

By Saturday I will have spoken to the debt advisor, and come up with a payment plan starting with mays wages… I feel quite excited about this!! I will start a daily blog, as I feel it helps me a lot to see everything wrote down, that way I am able to see where I am going wrong.

Whilst thinking about money making today… Can any of you point me in the right direction of decent companies that pay you to type for them from home, or extra money making? I was thinking that I could add that to the paid surveys, while I am looking for better paying full time job.

Thanks for reading & hope you have a lovely evening.
    Don.

P.s. Must try and write less :o

For money making, best to ask on the Up Your Income board.

If you like writing, there are sites where you write reviews of products in return for small amounts of money. But it sounds like you're after more audio-typing work?
