If you can see cctv does it show amicable discussion between both parties? does it show both 'happily' walking away with out exchanging details - therefore no damage/further action needed? (if you know what I mean). Still sounds to me they are trying to pull a fast one.
Will any of this have repercussions with your child/children in the school?
Does teacher teach your kids? You might want to take this into consideration. I would say it is up to you how to play this.
If teacher teaches kids, come to some arrangement, even maybe offer to pay 50% of bill. If teacher doesn't have contact with your kids, stand your ground and tell them to prove it was your wife's car.
    good luck with this.

Thanks for all the replies so far,

I'm going to get some legal advice through my trade unions solicitor.. Which I pay with my union subs, and will write back what they say.

It's all well and good trying to dispute what sounds like them trying to swindle you - but when your insurer finds out you didn't report an incident they could potentially have to pay out on within the 24 hours most policies state then they will not be happy.

Since you agree both vehicles collided and you are at fault I suspect the insurance company will pay out without much hesitation what is currently a very small bill to them. Thus affecting your claims and ncb history.

I'd tread carefully. Maybe make them an offer

Well your kids will now know which car belongs to the teacher... on last day of 6th form at our school about 12 lads from rugby pretty much carried some geography teachers old mini and left it between two trees no chance to reverse out. She deserved it to be fair.

But not many primary school kids could do that.
