Expect questions like, describe how you excelled at something in the last year, describe how you overcame an obstacle, what are your strengths, why should we give you this job instead of someone else, describe your strengths and how they will transfer to this job.

Smile and try not to appear too nervous, as hard as that might be, make good eye contact and answer positively.

One I had recently was describe a difficult situation and how you managed to turn it around.

    Good luck

The NHS do a lot of 'Tell us about a time when...' so have examples ready of times when you excelled at the skills listed in the person spec.

Do some research on patient confidentiality and how you will have to be aware of it in your job.

    Good luck!

If you do a search on NHS, and have a look in the employment forum you will find some advice.

I started work a couple of month ago for the NHS.

There may be questions about dealing with demanding patients/family on phone or face to face, if you'll be in that type of position.

Also, prioritisation of workload examples will be a good thing to bear in mind.

Take some questions with you too, as that's always impressive. if you have to read them out from a pad, it makes no difference.

Research the role / unit etc.

    Good luck xx

If you imagine the most random question you can and then make an answer up for it you will be fine! The best one I ever got was ' What have you done in your current or previous roles, in or outside of the workplace, either through your employment or personally, which involved you going outside your competencies, boundries and skills?
Oh hang on, if I say 'I have never gone beyond my competencies, boundries or skills' then I am not willing to put myself out in an emergency.
If I reel of a list then I'm someone who thinks I know it all.
Glad I left the NHS :)
Just relax and be yourself, emphasis how organised you are, how you can keep your cool in a ward environment, how you are friendly and approachable - and your good sense of humour. Good luck :)
  • Have a look at the 'star' technique for this- dont just give an example- Situation - what was happening-Task you had to do- Action what you actually did .Result- what was the outcome. Good luck! Lots of changes up here in Scotland with the alleged integration of health and social care so its an interesting time to join!

i'm trying to think of what interview questions I've asked at the interviews I've conducted over the past couple of years. i'm not in the nhs, so most wont be relevant directly, but I can jot a few down tomorrow if you want? x
