Getting rid of number withheld on my phone

Hi my mothers calls and line are both with BT. I have been looking at her bills. She has been charged for renting a BT phone for the past 20years but we have stopped that. Bought her a new phone.
I phoned BT and asked them to take off the block on her line that gives the number withheld message when she phones out but they said there is no block on. Does anyone know what we have to do to get this message off and her number shown when she calls anyone?
Thank you

If you dial 1470 before the outgoing number required it will then show up as her number being displayed and not withheld, I have this on my BT line but do pay a monthly fee for it so suggest checking the next bill when it comes through.
Ie: 1470 0800 000 000 to ring and have number displayed.0 -
It isn't clear what you want - if she gets a message saying the caller does not accept calls from her, it is because SHE is withholding her number and they choose (rightly) not to receive it. She can ask BT to remove the block on her number being sent, or dial 1470 every time her call attempt is blocked.
If she is complaining that calls to her are being blocked with the message, then she needs to ask BT to remove the ACR service from her line (Anonymous Call Rejection) which is a service she will be paying extra for.0 -
It is her number that is being withheld, we have asked BT to take off the block but they say no block on. Nobody has ever refused her phone number, she only phones friends and family but it means I have to answer numbers coming up as withheld on my phone as it may be her. I have set up her new phone with all the numbers saved on it. Does that mean I now have to do it all again putting 1470 in front of all the numbers?
I still don't understand why there is this problem.
Steve I have checked her bills and no extra charge for this.0 -
I used to have the (free) 'permanently withhold my number' service on my BT line but asked for it to be removed when I retired.
If BT are saying that there is no such service on her line but you can demonstrate that there is, you need to escalate the problem to complaint level.
I'd suggest she simply explains the problem on THIS FORM (the lowest level of complaint that I know of).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
How do you know I'm the only one inconvenienced by it? I would like to know why there is this problem with her phone that BT can't help with. I have completed the form using the link heinz supplied but no reply from BT yet. Yes it is rather onerous to add 4digits to 40 other phone numbers.0

Get Number Withheld set up on the account, give it a month or two then ask for it to be removed.
Then complain that the number is still being withheld because they haven't removed it properly. Let them do the investigatingThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Is it still the case that if you're ex-directory your number is automatically withheld when calling out? Or am I misremembering? Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

You told us in post #4 that you alone were inconvenienced as you now have to answer all calls in case it's her!
You need to escalate your complaint to a higher level within bt if none of the suggestions here appeal.
in the meantime add those 4 digits to your number in her phone.
As entering them all seems onerous to you, maybe you could do 10 each visit whilst chatting to her in person. 4 trips and the jobs done!0
