Unwanted motorbike.

Hi was looking for some advice really.

We have been looking after a motorbike for a friend of our old neighbour. Our neighbours moved house and his friend seems to have disappeared (owed money to them or something!).

We have tried to contact the friend about his motorbike which is still being stored on our patio under a tarpaulin until he could come and take it to a new storage area (think they moved to a flat). And after being stuck there for over 2 years now its still in the way!!!!

The bike has no numberplate but does have a VIN number, we haven't requested a search with DVLA yet as bit reluctant to pay.

The chap who owns it isnt answering his mobile for calls or texts (but he may have just changed his number considering he owes money to our ex neighbours who are mutual friends and maybe avoiding them since he did a midnight runner).

Just wondered if anyone can say where we stand with the motorbike? Can we sell it, scrap it, hand it into police? What would you do? We just want rid and cant trace the owner as no-one knows where he went to.

Thanks in advance. :)
Failure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
If its important to you, you'll find a way - if not, you'll find an excuse ! ~ Easy to say when you take money out of the equation!

You can claim a car so Im guessing you can claim a bike.

I take it there's no old tax disc with a reg number on?

I think you would have to show you've taken reasonable steps to trace the owner before you did anything with it. A DVLA search will probably have to come into it. Once you've got the reg no. you can claim ownership of it. If he's registered it at his new address he'll get a letter stating someone is trying to claim it.

Have you tried seeing if he's on Facebook or Twitter?

Type his number in to fb and it should come up with a name, if he's allowed searching by his number
