Cancelling purchase

we put a £500 deposit on a Mazda cx5 yesterday, the car we wanted was already coming into the showroom anyway, it just happened that it was the one we were after.
I was reading on the interweb as you do, and I have come across a lot of US forums where they are saying that there is a problem with the windscreens cracking due to stress, which Mazda does not except.
on three of the long term road tests by different uk magazines, it has happened to them as well, one while it was parked up in a garage over night.
There is a back log for delivery of the windscreens of up to 6 weeks, as it includes a rain sensor attached to it.

I have tried to cancel our order today, but the sales person we were dealing with is on his day off and will be in tomorrow.
I explained to the person on the phone, would it be possible to cancel the order, but he said its best if I speak to the person we were dealing with.
If I cancel the order, will we get our £500 deposit back.

Wait until you speak to the sales person dealing with your request.

I doubt it, after all, what is the point of people leaving deposits, promising to buy cars, if you can just back out the next day (never understood why this happens. If you leave a deposit, and don't buy car, loose deposit!)

But surely you are not cancelling your order on the basis your windscreen might crack? If its a serious problem, then it will surely be subject to a recall at some point?

Why are you reading this nonsense after agreeing to buy the car?

If I was sales person I would tell you to get lost!
