Do they ever call you back? I registered for this a week ago and requested weekday evening calls - not heard from them.

Has nobody else used this service?!

  • I have had free loft insulation from Carillion via the Government scheme and its was installed incorrectly. They filled the eves and caused huge condensation problems in the loft space. I have been told that Carillion has shut down and despite numerous phone calls to their offices I cannot get the problem put right. Legally, there was no contract and I would have to take them to court. Basically, I am going to have to pay to put it right, so much for being a pensioner.
    Beware of free government hand-outs?

I tried to get this for my older brother, but because of his dementia they invented lots of hoops to jump through.
THEN finally said the data base showed 10" of insulation and cavity walls done.
It's a solid brick bungalow with 6" insulation.

You might just need to improve the ventilation in your loft space. You could ask a local builder or roofer to have a look for you.

Carillion has not shut down, all ECO work is covered by the Green Deal so it could be worth complaining to the green deal oversight and registration body or GDORB or contacting Carillions certification/accreditation scheme i've just has a look and its NICEC

  • Well, that was a waste of time. House isn't suitable - even though it has cavity walls, the savings aren't enough to qualify for getting some of my (taxpayers) money back from our dear government.

It's not taxpayer money, the ECO scheme is payed for by the big six.

There will be a grant available for insulation for you, it is just it may not fully funding so you can top up the grant to pay for the installation if you wanted to.

Tbh I don't know why Mse are pushing the British gas offer, there are hundreds of companies offering the same deal as the British gas one you just need to find a local installer and they should be able to give you more help than British gas and hopefully give you the installation for free.

Insulation pays for its self pretty quickly if you were paying the full cost for it so it would be worth doing anyway.

Hello I can assure you if you do not have loft or cavity wall insulation you can get a grant for it from any green deal installer paid for through ECO

I run a company doing this, and the CERO and CISCO parts of ECO are not means tested and you do not need any benefits to qualify.

Each individual company has different criteria for doing the work but the only requirement to get the grant is a recommendation on an EPC

If you contact a local installer you should be pleasently suprised
