EDF Payment Demand
Ive had a couple of calls today for outstanding payment on my EDF account.
I havent been with them for well over a year, as I cleared and closed my account because they couldnt get my payment information right.
They tell me I have £19.39 on my account outstanding. It will be passed to a debt collection agency if i dont pay.
They say I didnt make the last payment, but i was part of a payment plan that they set-up and I paid for without fail.
I cant log on to my account either.
This is ridiculus!!!!

Make them earn their measly £19. Insist on them sending all the evidence they have that you owe the money. I guess it's feasible that you do owe it, after a final reading was taken. Basically put it into dispute and they should then call off the low lifes.
As a side issue, I absolutely will not give my phone number to utility companies or any other similar organisation. I just don't give it to any commercial or government organisation. I would recommend everyone does the same.0 -
OP if you were on a payment plan how did you pay your final bill? If it was via a bank account you could go back and check your statements. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

For £19 they probably did give up. However there might well be a black mark on the OP's credit record.
It is the same with many disputed claims - 'guilty until proven innocent' seems to be normal; and there is often no way of proving the claim is flawed.0 -

I think - but I'm not 100% certain - that EDF don't report you to the CRAs. They certainly never used to.0 -
You do really need to keep your bills for a couple of years or more especially after the account has been closed to prove that everything was paid up.
The statute for recovering debts is six years so that's the ideal length of time to keep all your bills & statements.
Even if you don't actually get paper bills you should read and check them on line and download a copy and either save it on your computer or print it out before the account is actually closed and you can't then get access.
I'd guess that most companies providing credit including water & energy companies now report to CRA's so you need to keep on top of it all to avoid inadvertently getting a black mark. I know that Anglian Water & First Utility report to them - check all the small print on your bills or statements - some tell you, some don't.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
