An alternate story about insurance
I telephoned my insurer to add business usage to my policy and surprised to hear that I'm getting a £132 refund as my premium has been lowered. Che Ching!!

right well done!
I've often found on quotes that it makes little difference, but I want the option to drive to other offices and sometimes the airport for work very occasionally.
I did wonder though if you don't have it and used your ca to drive to the airport for a work trip are you technically uninsured? Same for driving between work offices?
How would anyone ever be able to check?0 -
Good question, my insurance had commuting, which covered me for my permanent place of work, which I understood as where my desk is. But since I work in public engagement I'm often required to go to different events. My insurers said because of this I needed business miles ( obviously I'm happy with that! )
I would imagine that a business trip would be similar to this, ie going to another location for the purposes of work.
Might be worth checking what u get per mile as opposed to claiming back public transport. I get 67p a mile for the first 3500, so to me it would've been worth paying any extra had that been the case.0 -
Class 1 business use is usually free or very cheap - basically it would be daft not to have it if you need it. A business trip is anything work-related that isn't 'going to your normal place of work' but the definitions of that can get complicated. For example when I worked as a supply teacher it was 'normal' for me to work at lots of different locations. Or now that I'm self-employed, if I go to the supermarket for the weekly shopping, but pick up something for the office while I'm there, does that count as a business trip?? If you have it, then you're covered. Simples. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
