As some of you will remember I'm sorting / organising 2 desktop XP Pc's to get rid of. I have nearly finished the first oldest one of the 2.

So I have checked through:

1: My Documents
2: My Pictures
3: My Music
4: Emails (Use Gmail since then so wouldn't need to do again)
5: Browser Bookmarks
6: Ebay Turbo Lister (very old!)

I have also searched with www.voidtools.com which was helpful as I had some files in random places!? (as advised by Closed) for .jpg / .doc. / .bmp & .mp3 files

So I know that everyone uses different progrmas etc. but is there anything else common / obvious of my information that I could have missed? I just want to be sure before I wipe hard drive?

*Think it would also be handy to have a thread with this sort of info in and how to prepare PC for "Next Life!" :D (as someone else described it! ;)) to refer to so when people ask you could just link to it?*

I have also made my mind up and bought a new PC!?! Finally! As I wasn't getting on with the Netbook set up as a desktop!

That sounds about right, when i back up someones computer i usually back up the whole of "C:\Documents and Settings" (Win XP) or "C:\Users" (Vista+)

How are you going to wipe the HDD, I would recommend using KillDisk (http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm) if you can run it a few times to make sure.

How big is the disc if it is an old PC,

I just copy the lot onto the new PC/other backup disc just in case.

if you remember anything you can always go looking for it. keeep a year or two and delete.

    Thank you all!

Just another quick question please... would you use Kaspersky if you you could get it free? (with Barclays) on the XP Pc I'm still using in the meantime instead of Avast?

Is it any better? Never thought of trying it before and not paid for AV since about 10years!
