Over the Easter weekend,my computer is being updated to Windows 7.In the meantime would it be ok to download a free antivirus or similar for some protection until then.Is there anything it would clash with? Or do you good knowledgable people even consider it necessary for the next 10 days or so?

Which would be the best one should it need it ?

Thanks

Why do you not have ANY anti-virus on your XP machine ? It has been a must for computers for years !

    Install AVAST

And on your new W7 install that and Malwarebytes.

As like the above post, i would never dream of not having any AV on my PC in fact it's the first program i install after installing the OS, then run Windows Updates.

You could use AVAST, AVG but I tend to always use a paid product as they always get the latest AV Definitions before the free versions do.

i thought microsoft security essentials had anti virus.

Anyway,on laptop at mo so can't check but as my computer was built and any problems sorted out by a computer savvy friend i am not concerned i am at risk.I just thought that with the end of support from microsoft, all protection was going.

Will still be supported as far as XP is concerned for another year. Don't panic.
