Consumer issue - self assembly question

First of all, I'm new so apologies if I'm not posting in the correct forum.
Can anybody please help? I have read the MSE consumer guide, but there is no mention about products that you have to assemble at home.
Essentially, we bought a child's trampoline, assembled it and used it for a day before the stitching of the safety netting split. We contacted the retailer who passed us on to the manufacturer to supply a new net.
The manufacturer asked us for a picture which we willingly gave, only to be told that we had assembled it incorrectly so it was our fault and would have to pay for a new net. The instructions were pictures only and there were no specific written instructions about fitting the net in the way they required.
As this is a safety net, we thought it would last longer than 1 day and doesn't really say much about the overall strength of this product.
Can anybody advise how we should progress? Do we even have any rights??

Your rights are with the retailer, not the manufacturer.
Have a read through this article as it should answer any questions you have. >> http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange0 -
True, but if the manufacturer has stated that the fault is due to incorrect use then I don't think there's much more the retailer will do.0

Are there clear instructions on how to assemble the safety net and fix it to the trampoline? (I recall that when I built our old trampoline many years ago - now gone with the wind, literally! - the instructions seemed pretty clear).0

Tough one really, as it could be classed as misuse.
I guess it really depends on how far off from the instructions you were, and whether or not it was reasonable for you to make that mistake based on the instructions given...0 -
My husband built it, but I personally don't think the instructions are clear. Just a picture with arrows showing the netting going down.
With hindsight you could say that the door in the picture is in a different position, but there is nothing specific in the instructions to say that if you position it incorrectly the netting will fall apart!
It just seems a bit harsh that we're are expected to pay half the value of the trampoline for a new net when we have litrally had a few hours use out of it!0
