Sky Charging Me For People Moving Into My House

I am moving house within the next month or so and as soon as I get an official moving in date I will contact Sky to arrange a house move. However the people who are moving in to the house I currently live in have already arranged a home move and now I am getting cancellation notices for my phone line and am being told I am going to be charged an early cancellation fee even though I have not rung to cancel anything! The fee is because the people moving in have requested a home move and because it’s done on the address Sky think I am cancelling products before my contract is out.

What can I do to challenge this? I have tried to tell the people moving in to cancel their request until we can give them an official moving in date but have not heard from them. I have said to Sky surely it’s data protection issue if other people ringing means that changes happen to my account, al I get is someone telling me I have to contact the people and get them to cancel their request. My argument is that I, the account holder have not rung Sky to cancel any products (I will be ringing them as soon as I have an official moving date) and as such my services should not be cancelled nor should I incur a charge.

Is there a governing body I can complain to? Should I push for goodwill? Any help will be appreciated!

Your purchasers are at fault, they should not action anything until they have a moving in date-unless they want you to enjoy free calls on their account. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

OP you need to keep ringing Sky until you speak to someone that understands what you're saying. The new people have not and cannot cancel your account. They are very cheeky giving a move in date when nothing has been agreed yet.
I hope you get it sorted. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -

Thank you to the both of you.
Sky say they haven't done anything wrong as the phone line is rented from BT and so when someone says they are moving the Sky Tags get removed form the phone line and e-mails and texts are sent out saying my broadband will be cancelled and that I will incur charges for cancelling my contract early even though I didn't ring up to cancel anything.
Have e-mailed the CEO, whether I get a reply or not remains to be seen. Don't think it's right that someone else can ring up and their actions impact on my account and services.0 -

Ohh, it's a case of the people moving in to your property cannot live without Sky for even a few days!
Ask Sky what the new installation date is, they try and delay the handing over of the property until after then. When the engineer comes round (if this even gets through Sky's system!), reject the install. The new people will then have lots of hassle re-arranging it for another time and will be without their precious Sky.0 -
People seem to be assuming that the OP is selling his house, and there are purchasers involved. I don't think this is the case.
harrpau7 can you confirm whether you are the owner of the house you are currently in (and therefore selling) or if you are renting it and at the end of contract. These are two very different scenarios that will garner different advice.
SPCome on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0
