Tuesday 8th April - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending:money:

morning all

So far I've:
Had a coffee at home instead of buying one on the way to work (usually £2.40)
Had porridge I had in the cupboard, resisting temptation to get a bagel (saving £2.50)
Bought lunch and snacks from home, saving me around £5-£7.
Feeling very proud of myself so far!:A0 -

Hi all,
I had a horrible shock when I got home last night. I had an email saying our rent had not been paid!! And the email was sent at 17:55 with the agents closing at 18:00 so I couldn't phone them until this morning
It turns out this is entirely the letting agents' error, and it has now been rectified and they have informed the landlord that it was in no way our error. So it's fine but it just really sent me back to the days of everything NOT being fine. I feel quite shaky. When I'm working so hard to get our finances in order, I could just do without this sort of thing!!
Anyway, today I rather undid my good work of home-made gifts by spending way too much money on wrapping paper
but then I found a yellow-sticker deal for my lunch so maybe it evens out :rotfl: 0 -
Hi,
Today i have joined this site/forum
Have been generally worried for the past few months about the level of debt we are in, the length of time that it will take to clear, and also the fact that out kids are growing up fast and the University years will be here soon.
Have also chased up all our card debts to check current balances are correct and in line with what our DMP says and researched the forums for tips on making offers, something we hope to doe periodically over the next 5 years.
Feel better about things already
DMP total Mar 2009 = 43,836
DMP total now = [STRIKE]35,883[/STRIKE] 33,500
Debt free date = [STRIKE]2044[/STRIKE] 2037
Debt free aim = 20250 -
Morning all,
Today's list of small positive money-saving things:
*Saved a bit of energy by sharing bath water, doing laundry overnight on Economy 7, line-drying, hand washing a few things instead of running an extra load, hardboiling enough eggs to do this week's packed breakfasts & not having any heating on at all.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Did a few surveys.
*Checked veggie plants for pests/problems.
*Made marmalade with the pink grapefruits I prepared & put into soak yesterday. 4 big jars, beautiful colour, one jar will deinitely be used as a little Easter gift for family member.
*Prepared veggies for tonight's meal, saving all scraps for topping up worm composter to get it into full production for the new gardening season.
*Tip out big pots of daffodils which have now finished flowering & re-plant in new fairly empty bed in garden.
*Sow courgettes, coriander, basil, rocket & possibly other seeds, depending on time.
*Carry on knitting current project for the present box.
*Divide up some plants from my borders to replant in empty spaces. This will stop garden centre temptation....a BIG source of naughty spends for me in the past.
*De-leaf the pond - need to do it now before the newly hatched tadpoles really get going. Not really money-saving, but certainly time-saving as don't want to be emptying the pond out this year for a major de-gunking session.
*Made some more recycled plant labels from cutting up old spread tubs.
OK, better get my preserving pan scrubbed out, find some lunch, then get out into the garden with my job list & seeds.

Hello Debtfreeby50, welcome on our forum

Hello all
Am at work again today, earning not spending. Just had my minestrone "soup" which has actually turned into more of a stew as the pasta soaked up a lot of the liquid (but tasty, filling and cheap! .:)
Baked 3 of my frozen potato cheese pasties for the men's lunches this morning. One decided to have it for breakfast!
Last night I did a lot more work on our budgeting spread sheet. I am trying to get it more detailed (i.e. if we spend £35 at the supermarket - how much was food, how much household cleaning and so on - rather than lumping it all together).
I have also been a garden centre spender - just too tempting. I haven't got any veg seeds on the go this year - I got a bit downhearted after spending money on seeds and compost (we do have 2 compost bins but had to stop putting veg peelings in those as it was attracting rats ) but getting quite low yields.
Tonight I am going to show OH through my spread sheet so far. Just to keep him in the DFW loop.
Enjoy the rest of the day0
