Dismantling a dangerous garden wall

Kids in doors. Anything on other side of wall moved away.
Health a Safety Disclaimer - Goggles, Gloves and Hat;)
Then remove each brick one at a time with a hammer and chisel, starting at the top hitting bricks towards your garden.
A few trips to the tip in your car, or a mini skip.
Then like you say extend the fence.
As above but just give the whole lot a good booting from the neighbours side, jobs a "goodun".
I'm actually serious about that, it wants to fall over, encourage it. The last thing you want is to be trying to take it apart from your side then end up "wearing it"
It's kind of death by a thousand cuts or the guillotine, :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Hi Jack, can you please expand on this please? i'm not sure i'm clear what you mean...are you saying don't hit the chisel directly into the wall
Jack means starting at the top RHS, put your chisel in line with the wall - i.e. pointing left towards the house, with the chisel in the first row of mortar under the top brick. Hit it and take the first brick out.
Move left to the next brick, again keeping the chisel in line with the wall and so on...
Try not to hit the wall face on - that is the direction the wall is weakest as you have diagnosed, and you may end up with squashed [STRIKE]vermin[/STRIKE] guinea pigs.

Try and save as many bricks as you can and then you can build a nice new wall afterwards.0

Good luck with the demolition of the dangerous wall DRP. Keep everyone well away from it until it's made safe. We know that unsafe walls can fall and kill:

The wall has more strength if you're hitting along it's axis rather than at right angles, so there's a better chance that it will break where the chisel point is rather than knocking out a bigger lump than you'd bargained for. It's just about demolishing in a controlled manner and minimising the risk of a big lump going all at once.0 -
I often wonder if the people who let ivy grow all over their houses think about this.

Oh, I think it adds value:o:o:o:o:o:D:D:D:D:D
Regarding ivy, (and I hate it just as much as virginia creeper, anyone who has had that grow onto plastic windows will know what I'm talking about), I read that it doesn't actually do any physical damage.
It does not cause the wall to crack and break up, it simply grows into existing cracks.
Sure is some crap written:rotfl:, if coltsfoot can grow through tarmac I wouldn't give ivy a foothold anywhereI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Exactly, that's my point;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

I might be doing the demolition work this long weekend. If i remove all bricks from right hand side to LHS and leave the stone work in plce, any suggestions on how to (simply) beautify/stabilise the new edge of the wall - it isn't going to be on my side of the fence, but i don't want to leave an eyesore - or more importantly an unsafe structure on my neighbour's side.
ps. Still not managed to get a fencing company to answer/reply/quote for this little job...0
