Hello

I was wondering if anyone can help.

I bought a sofa from Harvey's furniture store in January 2012....it didn't get delivered till march 2012 and it was all fine until 2 months ago, I have been finding small white worms in the sofa. The are creamy white with red/brown heads. Now I have done research and apprently they are wood work larvae. I am now wondering whether these wood worm Eggs where already in the sofa when I bought it and are only coming out now two years later as I have done my research and they say that it can take 1-3 years to notice. They have never been problems in my house before then!

Could the manufacturer be liable for this as it's all occurring in the sofa even though it's out of warranty? This sofa cost me £647 for a 2 seater and 3 seater so If they dont help
I will have to throw sofa away and won't be Able
To replace it as I can't afford it now. Looks like I'll be sitting on the floor!

    Read MSE's Consumer Rights guide.

    In there you will find:
    Know who's responsible

When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!

If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.

It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with them.
Lots of other good stuff in there too.

Like you have up to six years to seek a remedy from Harveys.

Why would you have to throw away the sofa? Just sort the problem out if it is woodworm.

You will have to prove the woodworm were present at time of purchase which is hardly likely.
