Leasehold - buildings insurance certificate

Hi
Need some advice please!
I am in the middle of selling my property, which is leasehold. As part of the sale i need to provide a copy of the buildings insurance certificate which is held by the person who owns the freehold (it's a block of apartments).
Problem is, i'm having problems getting hold of a copy of the certificate. I have politely requested it several times.
Where do i stand with the sale of my property if i can't get my hands on the cert? can i contact their insurance company direct to ask for a copy as one of the residents of the insured property?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Who have you requested it from? The freeholder or the managing agents? You can always try getting a copy from the insurer though they likely won't help.Trying to keep it simple...

Hi edinvestor
I've requested it from the person who owns the freehold (it's not run by a management company).
Will give the insurer a go...who knows they might be able to help!
Cheers

Normally the management company are the ones who sort out the buildings insurance on behalf of the freeholder.
Unfortunately management companies can take their time answering queries ( 4-8 weeks) and usually demand payment for supplying copies of documentation.
It is best to get your solicitor to find out from the seller's solicitor all the documentation they need so it can be asked for in one go.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Hi Olly
The owner of the freehold is also responsible for the management of the block in this case. It hasn't been handed over to a management company.
Will give it one last try and see if they send the cert as requested!
