How much you get through depends on how many people are in the household and how often teeth are cleaned during the day. If the OP wants to source from a cheaper retailer then that is what this board is for!

Yours might be £1 and last for months, but the OP says she buys Colgate Total. Normally around £3 but she buys it when it's 2 for £4 and 2 tubes last a month.

Perhaps you could help her by pointing her in the direction of the toothpaste you use?

I have one particular tooth which is very sensitive and I have found Arm and Hammer sensitive extra white really helps with this particular tooth. I usually stock up a few tubes at a time when its on offer (in places such as B and M or Home bargains) for £1. The only other sensitive toothpastes I have previously found helped were Sensodyne or Colgate Sensitive Pro relief but these tend to be more expensive.

Thanks all. He wont drop from total to normal Colgate i'm afraid. I was hoping someone as fussy as he is might be able to offer a 'just as good' suggestion.

I bought a 60p Lidl one the other day and must admit my teeth don't feel as clean and i had to brush harder for longer.

I will keep a look out in poundland but i'm hardly ever near a town. perhaps if i see total there i will have to stock up.

I have to say that having used toothpastes from the cheapest to the ridiculously expensive (colgate pro senstive whatever must have gold particles in it..., corsodyl you pay a fortune just because of the name etc etc), I've never noticed any difference in how the tooth are cleaned, the taste and the appearance vary a lot, some have sparkling bits in them, some look like gray mud...
However if your aim is to have the cleanest teeth, an electric toothbrush makes a huge difference, mine was recommended by my dentist and I never looked back (don't need a fancy one, an Oral B professional care 1000 is as powerful as the more expensive ones, 40,000 pulsations and 8,800 sweeps per minute is as powerful as it gets, not matter how much you pay ;) )

My dentist always has free samples on the counter, its nearly always colegate sensitive total. I am often told take as many as you want and I dont need telling twice!! I do pay for a dental plan though so i like to think its included in my £15 per month fee.
The dentist always recommends colegate and an oral b sensitive toothbrush for me.
  • I dont see much difference between cheap vs more expensive toothpastes. Just check the labels and compare, most have the same cr*p in them. Sorry, I know this isnt particularly helpful for OPs question, but maybe it´ll help someone else.
