Most of the private hire firms around here have started using meters, as well as the hackney cabs.

PH is usually cheaper, but you do have to provide turn-by-turn directions to your destination. I was in a PH taxi recently where the driver didn't even know where the airport was.

A taxi home from the pub costs £7.80 and I normally give them £10 and tell them to keep the change because they arrive quick for me when I need them and ive never been charged extra on Bank hols, a driver ive never had before picked me up a few months ago and tried to charge me £12.60 so I gave him £7.80, told him never to pick me up again, got out of the car and told him if he had a problem then take it up with his cab firm.

The big mystery for a lot of Londoners, and has been for many years, is why London black cabs will never 'go South of the river'. :think:

Have a night out, in the West End, and you have to go to a normal, bookable, private hire company to get home to any part of South London.... :whistle:
