Hi, some advice if you please...
Hubby was working for an agency last Apr and May - he was paid weekly and they deducted CIS tax (it's approx £350 for the 2 months). He then got a full time job and is paying PAYE. How will he go about telling the Inland Revenue about the CIS tax he's paid. Will we have to do a tax return - and when is this done?
Thanks

Did he register as self employed at the time and received a UTR from HMRC.

The tax year ended on 5 April so he should complete a Self Assessment tax return for the year 6 April 2013- 5 April 2014.

He will need to complete a Self employment page/section for CIS (make sure he shows the date this ceased and includes the tax paid) and PAYE employment page/section (he should get a P60 from his employer to 5 April 2014 with pay and tax. If he had any other income or benefits in the year he may also need to include these on the tax return.

    Hope that helps

That's brill. We have done self employed assessments for the last few years whilst he had his own business. I told them that he wound that up and filed the last SA for that. I will await a P60 for the period July 13 - Mar 14 and do a SA for the agency earnings, CIS and the PAYE then.
    Thanks very much.
