Our sofa is 10 months old from harveys the melissa range a dark brown leather 3 and 2 seater recyliner.
Yesterday as I walked past I notice what look like melted milk chocolate, thinking how the hell chocolate was on my sofa so on close inspection the dark leather had come off.
It looks like it started at the side seam of middle seat and now it's worked it way up and you can now see it on top of middle seat. Sofa is under manufactor guarantee I called harveys after sales and they are sending out a technician.
Has anyone else had any problems? I have read a couple of things online where a few people have said the same happened to them, but my worry is if the technician re sprays what to say colour won't come off again.
It's not very good when you pay all that money for goods and after a couple of months the quality fades.
Please advise

This appears to be an expensive suite, but no details of the manufacturer so no idea if the price reflects the quality. Well known manufacturers sell very good suites for less.
I see there is currently a very deep discount if you buy more than one piece, suggesting the headline prices are overinflated. It mentions leather, but what type of leather? No details on the site.
Refuse any attempt to have it sprayed. It will come off and is a cheap fix. Demand a proper repair, which may mean new panels of leather, but that isn't your problem.0 -
Thank you for your reply. The suite was from harveys. On site it's says 100% genuine leather
I've looked at suite and it's says made from cow hide. I am not going to be palm off by harveys, i want a replacement or too pick a new suite0 -
Personally, I would be looking for a refund or choice of another. I see no point in replacing with the same sofa which you could find going exactly the same way. Oh and make sure if you choose another sofa you get the same guarantee as the first. Too many companies try and fob of with ' good will gesture' no further guarantee.
We are having sofa nightmares at the minute!
My advice to you would be to put your complaint in writing giving them 14 days to respond.
Too much is lost in translation if dealing by word alone.0 -
That bald bloke Dom did this (last Friday?) in his Saints and Scroungers programme.... or Consumer Problems programme.... check it out online.
They send a technician and it'll be fixed... and if you're not happy they might fix it again. Law is being changed soon they only get one chance to make it right before they have to replace/refund I think ... wasn't taking too much notice to be honest, but you might like to look up the programme and see what happened.0 -
Thanks for that pasturesNew, I've just watch it online, it gave me some good info to put into a email to harveys.
hope you sort your sofa problem out storm breaker.0 -
I'm waiting for delivery of the exact same sofas!!!!
We did our research first as well and we found that there were a good few people who had the same issue so we questioned it. We were told that they had identified that previous sofas made had had some issues with the leather but they had rectified it and started usig different leather/dye.
I just hope this is true!
In response to those saying that you can buy better quality for the same price, can you tell me where please?? We (well hubby did) researched this and couldn't find anything in the same price range. I forget the name of the companies we looked at.0 -

Cancel your order first thing tomorrow, if you don't three years down the line you'll wish you had.0 -
Better for same price isn't easy as each piece has two prices. At the cheapest price, the sofa at £350 per seat it is at the lowest end for quality, at the highest price of £700 it is comparable to excellent quality leather sofas.
What is being sold is a £350 a seat sofa, but some may only buy the sofa and will pay £700 a seat for it. Excellent business for the retailer.0 -

Alas, we can't! I always thought Harveys were decent! My SIL got a sofa from there nearly 10 years ago and is in fantastic condition still. No sagging, no fading, no obvious wear apart from what you would expect.0
