External Render

I'm just having some Kingspan on my external walls. Any ideas on price for external render - base coat and top coat. I've had a quick look at KRend and it's coming back at about 20 per metre squared. Seems a lot.

External render will not be much cheaper, also by the time its painted there will be no saving. Also krend will not need painting for a long time
  • £20 a mtrs is NOTHING for silicone based render.

It will breathe, micro porous and through coloured.

Will NOT need painting ever, can be power washed,

£10 a bag + Vat to buy and not many 'plasterers ' like it because they have not been trained to use it.

Compare sand and cement render: Concrete, does not breathe need painting every few years . Get frost behind it and peels off.

I am not sure where your property is, or the size , but £20 is soooooo cheap it makes me wonder how they can do it for that.

You could go for Brick finish
    £80 mtr (Brickrend)
    Stone finish (Stonecoat)
    £60 mtrs

Or cladding with that Coronation St stuff. (Priceless).

If you go for K-Rend ask them to sponge fiish it rather than come back and scratch it. It looks better and makes less mess.

K-rend looks nice when first put on, but any water run-off on it and your expensive render looks crap..... I can get it for £11 m2, base and top coat, but have decided to go for old-fashioned roughcast with white cement - it's bomb proof. :)

Thanks guys. The £20 p/m2 is just to buy it. The plasterers are on aday rate and have been doing a lot of other work for me. They said they could get it cheaper but I thought KRend was the best - maybe not??

  • K Rend is £10 a bag icld vat, and spreads about 4mtrs a bag on a yop coat. If they sponge it rather than dipple it, it will be good for years.
I had mine done 14 year ago and it still looks good though I do wash it with moss treatment every year due to overhanding trees.

As I said, those that can't do it, don't like it.. some old schoolers use lime in the sand and cement nix,

PS Weatherby also do a similar product, buts thats made by BASF in Manchester.

Might be worth having a look at Johnstone's storm shield in heavy build... Like Sandtex but cheaper, can have it in any colour and it goes on with a trowel like render or you can get it on with a masonry roller - coloured and texture-coated in one hit... If prepped right they guarantee it for 15 years
