Don’t miss the stunning 4K restorations of Rebel Without A Cause (1955), Giant (1956) and East Of Eden all showing on the big screen at the BFI Southbank this Easter. These 3 iconic films comprise nearly the entirety of Dean’s tragically short film career, which saw the actor receive 2 Oscar nominations. Perhaps the best known of the three films is Rebel Without A Cause as it is the film that immortalized James Dean when it was released just a month after his death. Dean plays the volatile Jim Stark who finds quickly finds new friends and enemies in the town he has moved to. The film is now revered as one of the earliest to portray the angst of youth, particularly against the spirit and discontent of American teenagers in the 50’s. Dean’s angelic looks are matched by his incredible, raw talent his method acting. His style was all about living in the moment – “Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today”.
