Our Cat went missing. (Might have been run over)

Hi everyone,
We have 3 cats (5-7 years old) and last Monday Freddie our youngest one (5) did not come back Monday night which was a little unusual but on Tuesday was starting to get a little worried by 3pm. So went for a walk and knocked neighbours etc. But nothing.
So on Thrusday we rang our insurance company and asked about advertising etc so we got a load of flyers and posters (laminated) made on Friday and posted them over the weekend.
A lady rang us today saying she saw what looked like our cat on a busy road (about 5 mins from our house) and was speaking to a guy (we are unsure if he found him or knocked him down) who was putting him in a box and was taking him home to bury him. She had no infomation on the person but must have seen our posters around the village the weekend.
So at least we know what might have happened to him. But what sort of person finds a dead cat and then takes him home to bury him. Surly the first point would have been the vets (around 5 mins away in the village). He lost his collar on Thursday last week and we got a replacement but as got 2 children under 2 (1 5 weeks and unwell) slipped our mind. He is microchipped and we phoned this vets on Wednesday to see if they had anything and nothing reported.
We are both upset he is no longer here and our 2 year old keeps asking for him as he was a lovely, friendly cat who would love the roughness of a 2 year old on him. But more upset we can not bury him ourselves and place a tree, rose etc with his ashes.
We have now placed a load of missing posters on that main road in the hope the guy sees these and brings our cat back home to us.

Not everybody knows about microchips or realises what the right thing to do is when they find a dead cat. Especially if they aren't a pet person themselves.
Try not to dwell on the fact that you'd rather have him buried at home, and focus on the fact that somebody cared enough to take him off the road and treat his body with respect. Many people would n't have done anything for him.
You can still have a little spot in the garden dedicated to him, plant a tree, have a little memorial. I'm sorry for your loss.0 -
I agree with Person_one. It's very unusual to hear of someone taking the time to remove the cat and do something like that. A lot of the time they are just left
I think it's nice in a way that he took the time to take him to lay him to rest.
Hopefully he will see your posters.

When you think about it in that way yes it was nice of him to do it. We spoke again to the lady and he was upset about it, so looks like he accidentally knocked him down.
Hopefully he see all the posters now and be in touch0 -
Hopefully, but I wouldn't pin your hopes on the idea of getting Freddie's body back even if the man is local and sees them. It might be for the best that he stays where he is now and you have your own little place as a remembrance. Like a park bench for a person, they aren't buried there but you can go there to think about them.0
