Ebay nightmare

Anyone able to help?
My daughters account (she lives abroad) has been fraudulently used to sell fitness DVDs . This was reported straight away but it happened again. A continuous ping pong between us and ebay to keep the account cancelled has ensued since last year. They had PayPal continuously take money from her bank account and after battles with help from her bank she was refunded on various occasions. It has been reported to their fraud department, who are worse than useless. The police have contacted their fraud department also.
She had an email last week stating all was sorted and they've reinstated her account which she doesn't want. She has changed her bank account. Today I have received a letter on her behalf from a debt collection agency.
Our financial ombudsman has no jurisdiction over ebay I don't know what else do do.

I would find out who has instructed the debt collection agency then send them copies (keep the originals) of all correspondance from eBay, Paypal, yourselves and the police to prove your daughter's details were used fraudulently and it was not her. hopefully they will then stop chasing your daughter for payment. You may also want to contact citizens advice bureau for additional help in proving the fraud to the people chasing the debt.0

If this has happened 'continually' then as well as the advice already given I would look to secure any information used online as someone has either compromised the security or fallen for a phish.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. As far as I knew, once an account had been used to fraudulently sell by a third party, it was closed and never reopened under any circumstance. How do you explain that this happened repeatedly even after being reported?Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Accounts can remain open as ebay assume sellers (or buyers) take steps to rectify what ever had caused the breach in the first place. Obviously this is not ideal if someone has lax security or doesn't quite manage to stay as safe as they might.
I assume though, but don't know for fact, only anecdotally, that future breaches are perhaps not treated quite as sympathetically as once can be unfortunate, twice or more can start to look more like someone who cannot secure themselvesI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thank you for the advice, it has happened repeatedly as the police suspect it is someone inside ebay using accounts fraudulently this is why it keep being reactivated. We are informed by the police that the one fraud unit alone in Cheshire deals with hundreds of fraud cases each week concerning ebay. Her account has been reactivated as recently as 3 April even though my daughter has cancelled the account via email, and in writing.
According yo the financial ombudsman whom I spoke to today there is no jurisdiction in the uk over ebay so please watch out.
I will follow advice given on here thanks. Also she has changed her bank account on the advice of the bank.0 -
Hi Pamster
Just to elaborate on what (I think) Soolin is saying... the security problem may not be directly connected with eBay.
For example, if somebody is accessing your daughter's email account (the one linked to eBay/PayPal), they may be able continually reset her ebay passwords, reactivate her eBay account etc.
e.g. A fraudster could have set up a filter in your daughter's email account that fowards all email from 'ebay.co.uk' to the fraudster's account, and then deletes the original.
Or... more simply, they could have just added their email address to your daughter's ebay profile.
Or... there is some malware on her computer that is capturing passwords.
As the problem is happening repeatedly, it may make sense to dig a little more deeply.0 -
Thanks will see what I can do.0
