We have a lovely old dog that suffers with old age and heart problem. I pay just over £100 a month for his tablets from the local vet. Any one ale to advise on ways of reducing this monthly outgoing. And no .... the dog stays!
I have started ordering his food online which has made a big saving.

Following advise on here I get my cats tablets from Animed, you will need a prescription from you vet and mine cost £7.00. I asked mine to write repeats on so I can get the tablets for 6 months without asking for another prescription.
Her tablets at the vets were £37.00 per month and through Animed they were £14.00.0 -
Fab, i will have a look online at their prices. Thanks0

I'm going to have a look at this for our next batch of tablets, as we're currently paying £60 for the dog's seizure and arthritis medication and it's starting to become totally unaffordable.
Did you manage get a prescription without much fuss?0 -
The vet wont make any kind of fuss. They will however charge for the prescription on the grounds that they need to check notes for dosages etc. My vet charges £15 for this, but he will put more than one drug on the same sheet as long as it is for the same animal. It still works out much cheaper than buying from the practice.
Prescriptions are only valid for 6 months from date of issue, but you can lodge the prescription with the pharmacy such as Animed and then order one month's tablets at a time if you so wish.
You should of course comply with your vet's instructions regarding check ups for the animal.0 -

Yeah, no fuss at all. They have to write one at a reasonable price by law and they were not funny or anything.0 -
I get everything from Animed - Zara's tablets would be around £70.00 per month from the vets but on Animed I pay 21.30 for a month supply.
Vet writes me a prescription with "6 months repeat" - and then I buy monthly from Animed (uploading the prescription) and claim both prescription cost (£9.40 at my vets) and the cost of tablets (21.30 per month) from my dog';s insurance.
Done a silly thing last time, paid some crazy price for a cream vet recommended (and got it from the vets) only to realise this is a human cream that I already have at home (banging head against the wall).0 -
I have two dogs who are now 13, one has arthritis and an enlarged heart.
My vet charged £48 for a 100ml bottle of Metacam.
I got a 180ml bottle from Animed for less than £17 delivered.
I now get all my repeat prescriptions from them.
A prescription costs me £15.
There should (by law) be a notice in the Vet's saying that you can have a prescription.
The crazy thing is that the company I now buy from is the parent company of the Vet practice I (used) to use!0 -

Just shows how much prices vary - my vets used to charge £68 the same size bottle when I had Ben ...... and that would've been around 5 years ago :eek:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
