If you really do want to go down the protein shake route (although I prefer to add protein powder to other foods such as pancakes rather than have as a shake) then I'd highly recommend PhD Pharma-Pro 3 which is what a lot of the guys at my power lifting club use as it's got an excellent balance of nutrients and good quality source of protein, offering 30g protein, 10g carbs and 2g fat in a 50g serving. It also tastes great!

Btw, if you're training hard then I wouldn't worry too much about your calorie intake. Have you ever done a proper BMR and TDEE calculation?

Thanks everyone, I'll look into all your suggestions!

Chameleon, yes I've done the calculations...my issue, and the main reason I'm looking for a low cal protein shake, is that I do intermittent fasting. Before I started this new training I was always able to find at least one day a week that I could squeeze a fast in but now I'm struggling as I'm so hungry all the time! I thought on fast days that fall the day after I've done weights I could have a shake for breakfast and hopefully that would see me through to dinner. It might not work but worth a shot if it means I can stick to my routine!

Oh yes, I remember now you asking about this in the 5:2 thread (at least I think it was you. I have such a terrible memory lol). In that case it certainly won't harm you to give it a try. I've just checked the nutrition label on the one I mentioned and it contains 95kcal per scoop (25g) so if you have a double scoop shake that would be 190kcal.

I often use the chocolate cookie flavoured one to make protein pancakes when I've got a craving for something naughty and it hits just the right spot :D

Haha yes it was me...but it's pretty quiet in there these days so thought I'd start another thread!

The one you've mentioned sounds ideal and protein pancakes sound AMAZING! How do you make them???

Funny you ask as I was just off searching for the photo and recipe as I've posted it previously :D

The photo is here and the recipe is here.

I wouldn't ordinarily add chocolate chips but I was craving something really sweet that evening. I usually add blueberries or goji berries to the vanilla flavoured ones.

Another post-training snack I often have is banana omelette cooked in coconut oil. I add in a tsp of cinnamon as it helps reduce inflammation and is a great anti-oxidant.

I'd go for adding more chicken to your diet. A friend of mine wanted to add more weight in his training and ended up boiling his chicken!

Boiling chicken sounds hideous - especially for the chicken! For nutrition advice, see this guy, he is totally amazing: http://www.forksoverknives.com/frank-medrano-powered-by-plants/

Looks good on paper but what does it taste like? I don't know anyone who's ever tried it but will ask around at my club tomorrow. £54 is a lot to spend if you hate the taste ;)
