when i recently tried installing xp sp1 on a pc the ie browser was useless and wouldn't let me update or install chrome. i think i needed to install sp3.

You'll still have access to Service Packs and Updates released thus far.

What is the current BIOS version installed to your Netbook?

Does the other PC have any identifying details?

Download sp3 manually. Thats the easiest option.

Just google XP SP3 download. It takes you to the MS site where it says download for IT specialists or network operators or similar.

Just download the exe file and install it.

    Updates will then work.

Save the SP3 file to a disc or memory stick to save downloading it again later if needed.
