O/S Daily Monday 7th April 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Hi Nmlc and everyone who follows.
Had a lovely weekend. OH put up some trellis so I don't have to look at next door:rotfl:
DD and DGC came over to see Gramma and Grampa. Grampa is off to New York on business on Weds, so little one wanted to see him.
My Aunt and Uncle are coming for the day today, haven't seen them since I was really ill, so she'll be surprised!
Lost my phone on Friday, stupidly put it in my pocket instead of my bag.It was an old one, but it had some of the last photos of Mum on i, so I was really upset.
On Saturday I got a phone call from the pub over the road, a lad of about 15 had handed it in over the bar!:T Don't know who he is though, so I have written to the local paper to find him. Nice to know there are some honest people about!:T

Having fish & chips for dinner from the shop over the road. (Best in Hastings!)

    Have a good day all!

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, and raining steadily as the forecast stated it would be, and it’s forecast to last all day – what joy!

DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early.

Lunch yesterday was all a bit last minute as we went to get on with the jobs we had planned, which we got done successfully and it was part of what has been floating round my mind and stopping me sleeping, just 1 last thing to do today and hopefully that will be a conclusion to it and then things should improve. We got jobs done, then called in to see my parents – dad asked DS1 if he wanted to go with him to watch some speedway racing at nearby town – so we left DS1 there. When we returned home we needed something to eat but I hadn’t planned very well and had forgotten to get a chicken out of the freezer, so DH said he fancied something I hadn’t got and I fancied some fresh fish – so I shot down to local MrM and picked up the bits we needed – not very OS I know, but we both needed it. The food was delicious and we both really enjoyed what we had, so it was worth it.

I remembered to get the pork loins out of the freezer, so they are defrosted and in the fridge, tonight we’ll have the pork, mash, veg and gravy.

Back to work today for me, don’t know what sort of day we’ll get – hoping it’s going to be a busy one, as it makes the day pass quicker.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all
Lazy start to the day hubby's shift is variable this week, he starts at 10 today, I've made a cuppa & taken it up to him.
Yesterday went ok, meal out was nice MIL wasn't sure I'd get my car along the High Street to the pub, but as hubby says, if the brewery lorries can fit through then I can. I had Stilton & parsnip nut roast, the others all had meat of various types.
FIL sneaked in an extra pint & got stupid & started ranting, he wants to visit Santiago de Compostela, I inadvertently upset him when I said my oldest son had walked one of the pilgrimage routes & according to FIL there aren't any, I then upset him further when I said Santiago de Compostela was in Spain FIL insists it's in France (you get the picture) I shut up at this point.
BIL & his GF told us all about their trips to Prague, Vegas & Morocco. They are of to Iceland next, then NY & then Thailand, hubby & I are not having a holiday this year, we can't really afford one as we want to overpay the mortgage, BIL's GF was explaining how we should claim benefit, that way we'd be better off!
Off my soapbox now, I'm hoping to get my sewing machine out today & finish the taggies & bandana bibs, then I can start on making 3 summer dresses for my self.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Hugs to the poorlies, JackieO hope you're recovering well and Molly, thinking of you today.

Lots of cleaning over the weekend, hopefully the builders will make headway this week and finish off the front of the roof and get the scaffolding down. Need gutters on as the rain is making a mess of the front of the house. Bought masonry paint yesterday for the builders to paint the chimney stack, asked next door if they had a preference on colour and they are just glad to have it done so that's good. I bought a very pale grey. Sent DD in to check with them it was ok an thought she had been abducted! She was ages and came back laughing and giggling, don't think she had really met them before. They are a hoot!

Anyway, first day off, my car is going into the garage (they are picking it up) and I must do some shopping so I will use DDs car when I have taken her to the station.

Made veggie meatballs last night which were very tasty, DD will have the leftovers for lunch today. Not sure what tonight's tea is.

Hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX
  • Good morning everyone :)

Late one from me as am off for a couple of days with DH who is away from his h***hole for 2 weeks. Let's hope his blood pressure drops and he feels less stressed.

Not sure what we are doing today as the weather looks very wet but am sure we will get somewhere. Maybe a mooch in the charity shops, I could do with some "new" tops for work.

DH is reading in bed, then we will get weighed. I wonder if it's good news.... will report back later!

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning everyone,

Hester Have a lovely break from work, you deserve it, I intend to have a very peaceful holiday.

Molly and JackieO Hope all goes well.

TTFTM Good luck for the weigh in.

OH has gone to work and all the children are still in bed so I am having a peaceful cup of tea. I think that my main job this holiday is to make sure that DS revises enough and that DD1 doesn't get too stressed about her revision.

Rang mum yesterday, she is really upset about my brother and his wife separating, don't really know what to say to help.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Hi everyone,

Horrible day here, it's gone really wintery again. I don't think I'll go very far today.

Now that DH has taken his laptop and the large screen he uses off the kitchen table I shall clear it, it becomes a bit of a dumping ground. I also want to do something about the kitchen floor, I cleaned it yesterday but it feels a bit sticky, if my joints feel up to it I think it needs a scrub.

I also want to make some more blocks for a quilt I am making for DD's friend, Dan. It's a bit of a departure because it's all in shades of grey and I've sourced a lot of fabrics relevant to his life. He's an architect so I've got bridges and houses, he likes photography so I've got some cameras etc. I hope he likes it, it's quite time consuming cutting the fabric to show off the motifs properly.

Not a clue what we're going to eat tonight, the freezer finally has some room in it but still needs to be emptier, I hate having to force the drawers shut.

Have a good day everyone, especially the school staff enjoying a well earned break. My thoughts are with Gonzo, I hope the funeral goes ok. Also Molly, I hope the op is a success and that you are recovering well, Jackie O.

    Morning all,

    ttftm:o Thankyou
My thoughts are also with Molly and JackieO lots of positive vibes.
snoozer I think Dan will love his quilts.
My Danny has gone off to do his second shift this morning, hubby at work and DGS at school. They don't break up until next week.
My DD is off today as she has a big insurance exam tomorrow and is studying upstairs. I shall take her a cuppa and a biscuit shortly.
Tea tonight is cottage pie as it fits in with my WW diet. I'm not hopeful for the weigh in this week, think I over indulged too much with being away at the weekend.
Anyway bed stripped and in the washer but shall have to put the dryer in as it's raining, again rolls eyes.
Better get a wriggle on and do my stretching. See you all later x

  • Good morning all,
Raining here and quite windy too.
Hubby is in bed as he has work tonight. I will just potter about today. I need to sort the fridge and the food cupboard out really. An ideal day to do it. Not planning on going out in this weather.
Tea tonight is leftover chicken with chips and salad.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning All!
Not been on for a few days, so need to read back and catch up.
Been very busy. Friday was spent doing paperwork, a little bit of cleaning and then relaxed on the sofa with OH and did some knitting. Saturday was an early start as I was at the Grand National for a hen-do and we had to meet at the pub for 8.30 - I got there for 8.20am but had an orange juice as couldn't face alcohol at that time. OH told me to have breakfast before he dropped me off, and I was glad I did as we just ate junk most of the day. I didn't spend lots & lots of money and overall I was only down £10 from the races as I won a couple so that was good :T Was a long day in heels though and I was glad when I got back to the pub my OH was there & with my flat shoes which I put on in the car, he is good :D
Yesterday was then spent feeling quite tired - no hangover thankfully as didn't have too much to drink. Made a beef dinner for 6pm which was nice. OH had quite a few bits to do paperwork wise as I wasn't there Saturday and his mum only did a small amount due to a powercut, so we managed to sit down come 4pm and spent the rest of the afternoon/evening relaxing and having some quality time :kisses3::love:
Tonight we are having jacket potatoes with beans & cheese and once I get back from work as tea won't take much doing I am going to try and get the rest of the house work done.

I am now going to catch up with the past couple of days I have missed.
    Happy Monday :j
Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:
