Would you/have you taken a second job?

Any thoughts or experiences?
I only work the one job, but it's 60-70 hours a week, and this is about the minimum I've done in twenty years in work.
That, for me, is about as many as I think is sustainable to still have some sort of life outside the office, and that outside life can't really include any leisure activities Monday - Friday. It will all be down to the individual, of course, but if someone's doing 35-40 hours in their main job, then it doesn't seem crazy to fit another 10-20 hours into a second one.
Just be careful when it comes to potential conflicts of time, extra commuting requirements, need to take equipment from one job to the next and so on. These could all be a big problem with two jobs that my one long job doesn't have.0 -
Hi
I work 7 days a week
5 days at my main job & 7 nights at my second job!!
It's absolutely shattering but I got myself into debt so I must pay it off.
It's hard as hubby works 4 different shift patterns (he's a train driver)
My twiglets are 11 & 9 & I rarely get to spend the time I want to with them, me & hubby communicate through phone calls & love notes lol
I've lost 2 stone in weight aswell (which is not a bad thing)
I know my 2nd job isn't forever but if I could turn back time I'd of never gambled away everything0 -
I'd like to add a word of warning. Firstly, make sure that it doesn't impact on the energy, enthusiasm and focus with which you're doing your main job. Secondly, be careful that exhaustion and time pressures don't raise your housekeeping costs eg buying takeaways instead of cooking, not searching for deals etc.
But on the other hand, if it's your hobby anyway then it might be your toe in the door of a more satisfying career.Debt £21,000ish (Down from £29,183 May 10)
Income £18,000 (up from £13,500 in 2010)
Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Bear in mind, you can split your tax code between your multiple jobs too if you're earning under your personal allowance in your main job.
Eg: Job A £5,600
Job B £4,400
you can work out your salary and talk it through with HMRC or even divide the allowance between more than two jobs and at random figures
Eg Job A £3,912
Job B £2,463
Job C £3,6250
