I lived 200 yrds from a village school in a picturesque village

Working full time it barely made a difference, parents are inconsiderate blocking the road (no excuse for 90% not to walk there!!) but most of the time barely a problem

I grew up next to a primary school and now work in one. If you're out at work all day there is no problem as you'll never see or hear a child and their parents' cars. However, if you're at home during the day and need to drive your car or sleep it would be a pain.

I could happily live next to a primary school or a cemetery as there would be no noise when I'm at home. As a student I lived above a fruit and veg shop and that was my idea of hell as I liked to sleep all day and there were always customers outside talking!

I would rather live next to a school than a pub.

A ten minute of double parking in the morning and afternoon , no noise in the evening .

It's not a competition between a school and a pub, is it? I'd prefer a house near a school if that was the choice but if the option is a school or somewhere else, I'd go for elsewhere.

With the schools round here, it's a lot longer than 10 minutes a time. The cars start coming when breakfast club opens and carry on until after the start of school. In the afternoon, cars start parking up anything up to half an hour before school comes out - I suppose parents are on their way home and it's easier to wait outside the school than go home and walk back.

Unless the holiday club is based at the school.:)

For the most part, I think you learn to tune out the playground noise - like people who live near a railway line stop hearing the trains.

Another thing to consider is that if you are single bloke, people might think you are a !!!!!.

Or if you are a !!!!! or have any kind of a criminal record that might deem you to be a risk to children (doesn't have to be a sexual offence) then the school and other key people in the neighbourhood will be informed about you.

My sister lives next to a primary school. She said she quite likes the sounds of children's laughter through out the day.

I lived near a primary for over 15 years. It was just over the road and I'm a miserable git but it was no problem at all. It was nice to hear the kids playing; it takes you back.

The drop off and pick up times were a bit busy but it comes and goes mostly without you even noticing.

A primary school is way better than a pub or railway line.

As a retired HT of a similarly sized primary school, one of my hardest jobs was maintaining good relationships with the neighbours. We got the blame for the downright rude, ill mannered, inconsiderate parents who blocked driveways, used the pavement as a social meeting place, and other things beyond our control other than writing to the parents on a regular basis knowing the plea would be ignored.

That said, I'd buy a house near my ex-school. The disruption is for relatively short periods, school holidays are great, especially the Summer when you're most outdoors. On the downside, my school was in use every evening and on Saturdays and Sundays during the day. This didn't cause problems and might be seen as activities on your doorstep so be an advantage. Just worth mentioning.

The worst thing? A six year long dispute over whether roots of trees in the school grounds led to an immediate neighbour needing their drive relaying. Just what teacher training is all about!
