Dear All,

Pleae help with the below - 2 areas picked up which sounds like bad news. I had an alert from my AVG which picked up a Trojan infection. This was quarantined but there seems to be an issue:

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 19:25:43, on 06/04/2014
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)
Boot mode: Normal

Running processes:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [{38e61ea7-3dda-9247-5530-f5af0b935d0d}] "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\{38e61ea7-3dda-9247-5530-f5af0b935d0d}\{38e61ea7-3dda-9247-5530-f5af0b935d0d}.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [{38e61ea7-3dda-9247-5530-f5af0b935d0d}] "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\{38e61ea7-3dda-9247-5530-f5af0b935d0d}\{38e61ea7-3dda-9247-5530-f5af0b935d0d}.exe"

Any diagnostic or remedial advice is welcome. The skybot search and destory scan picked up 2 registry entries which have been fixed.

NOTE: Seems like my Java software is corrupted from this infection so i've had to resort to manually deleting all the files from my programs folder. Don't want to reinstall java till I know this issue is fixed :(

Many thanks,

OP, why is your PC still running XP SP2? SP3 was released nearly 6 years ago now, so if it hasn't updated since then I'm not surprised that your system is vulnerable.

A good point for which i'm thinking of getting a brand new PC now. I had to manually delete Java from my system (program files) as it had become corrupted.

However, think there are still some java files on my system which is stopping me from reinstalling it. Can anyone please help on how I can wipe java completely away so that it can be reinstalled?

    Many thanks,

Do you really need it? It can be a major vector for attacks.

Eh? I didn't suggest a new PC I just suggested that you check why you are not getting your auto-updates for the last 6 years, as it's possible that malware has switched this off. Have you tried running Windows Update manually?
