Evening All,

I was on my emails today when AVG popped up with a virus detection for a trojan horse infection (GENERIC35.CONW).

I've placed this in the virus vault and also did a skybot search and destroy scan in safe mode - this picked up 2 registry entries which have been now been fixed.

However, when I ran the hijackthislog, it came up with the following, i've put the areas of concern in bold:

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

Definitely sounds fishy to me, and i've also noticed that java applications will not run online anymore. The browser just freezes.

Could anybody please help with any diagnostic or remedial assistance?

Many thanks in advance! :money:

    disable them with msconfig/autoruns/hijackthis

disable all your browser addons, ie, tools, manage add-ons

reset ie to defaults under advanced.

    scan with malwarebytes

    avast is better than avg

leechget? uninstall unless you need it.

you're still on xp service pack2 - lots of updates to do.

Thank you but the the problems reappear once they're fixed by hijackthis.

    Will try via malwarebytes.

Hijackthis doesn't "fix" anything; it just informs you of what's there. Malwarebytes does (some) fixing.

Thank you all - a clean bill of health now from hijackthis. Malwarebytes has removed all the hidden nasties.
