Business Ideas

I am a software developer with a degree in Business Information Systems. I work full time for a local company.
I have always wanted to work for myself at least part time. I work occasionally for a previous employer as a Freelancer and fill out a tax return at the end of each year.
The problem is that whilst I am strong technically and I understand business, I lack strong communication skills (confidence) and ideas. I am interested to hear how other entrepreneurs (specifically software developers preferably) thought of ideas and implemented them e.g. did you offer services free of charge to businesses/charities to get the ball rolling?

Go in with a friend who's maybe more 'outgoing' if that's the right term to use.
Or find someone who has an idea who would offer you some equity in the idea to their I.T. man, like I have an idea that's currently on the back burner purely because I haven't got the time to deal with the I.T. matters. In exchange they could then help you with your idea etc.0
