Obfuscatory Lunacy of Ofgem (or is it just Ovo's?)
For some insane reason Ofgem has decided that discounts must be included in quoted unit prices and daily standing charges. Have a look at the "All our plans" results table after asking Ovo for a quote. All there is is a list of incomprehensible numbers down the right hand side - no clear indication of any discounts etcetera.
Is this Ovo taking the proverbial or is this what Ofgem is actually demanding?
cf Walkon's valid but poorly worded gripe about Ebico's site revamp.

There are only 3 discount allowed and only one them is allowed to be built into the actual rates:
Payment type discounts need to be built into either the Standing Charge or Unit Rate (not both)
Dual Fuel discount need to be a flat amount per year accrued daily
Online/Paperless Discount need to be a flat amount per year accrued daily
OVO don’t appear to have any discounts based on the information shown but I believe the ‘cheaper’ versions carry a flat online discount that isn’t shown. I do think they have made a mistake in the ‘Nitty Gritty’ section, these details are the TIL and need to be shown in standardised format dictated by Ofgem which would make it easier to understand and also highlight any discounts.
I imagine a lot of the smaller suppliers will be struggling with the understanding and implementation of the recent changes to license conditions.
I don't think this Ofgems fault, look at he way SSE are handling this. Its a lot better experience. I just think the scale of change and tight frames are going to cause some suppliers to struggle.0
