    NiftyDigits,

It is an HP Pavilion model s7610.uk.

Os is xp media centre edition(whatever that means)!

    Bought january 2007

That is not at all old. Will take to Windows 7 easily.

Take the RAM to 2GB for £9.99 and add an inexpensive graphics(for around £20) if you wish to view Full HD material.

    Thanks Nifty,

Where do i locate windows 7 safely and is it pricey?

And what will the extra RAM improve?

    Sorry for being an ignoramus

Yep, you could run Windows 7 on the HP Pavilion model s7610.uk, it's a supported OS

To move files etc, you could could run Windows Easy Transfer, then get a USB stick of sufficient capacity.

Installing Windows 7 over XP will, IIRC, erase the disk so you'll need to restore all your stuff from the USB.

Is it worth all the agro because XP is going end-of-life. I'd say not if all you do is read mail and some browsing.
