Promotion and Pay Rise

  • Oh ami66 how rubbish :(

Will you get a redundancy payment?

"With immediate effect" can I suggest you call ACAS and discuss this, as it may not be legal: http://www.acas.org.uk/?articleid=1611. You will in any case have been entitled to your notice period and pay for any untaken holidays.

Is it just you in an IVA or does your husabnd also have one? When did it start?

There is a good article here on problems with IVAs that includes redundancy: http://debtcamel.co.uk/cant-afford-iva-payments/

    ...oh, what awful news.

Really feel for you. I too have previously worked for a small business, and remember when the 2 directors fell out, and effectively formed their own separate businesses, with neither one being big enough to justify my role along with most of the other staff. Nobody saw it coming either.

Ironically in my case, it was ultimately the catalyst for me becoming self-employed/starting my own business, which despite the IVA is going well.

So good things can come out of a bad situation.

What is the job market like in your field of work? I sincerely hope you find alternative employment soon.

The person that died was the finance director and although everything seemed fine after the first shock the more we sorted the finances the more it was clear he really didn't have a handle on things.

I guess his death pulled the card at the bottom and the house fell part. It may have only been a matter of time even if he had lived.

There are jobs out there the only issues is I'm unlikely to be able to get the salary I was promoted to :o have an interview later today with an agency so will see what the think about my salary expectations.

Even pre promotion salary will leave me worse off as I lose tax credits and child benefit for one child from September.

Payplan will let us have a 6 month payment break but we are really reluctant to take it yet as it's a one off deal so can only be used once.

Mortgage will also let us take a payment break. One month will just be tagged on the end and not considered to be in arrears. Any longer than that and it will be arrears and will have to be brought up to date when we start paying again.

Somehow even with the IVA we've built up enough savings, even having changed hubbies car recently, to see us through to mid September. That gives us breathing space before deciding on taking the breaks or not.

One thing I will say they lady that helped us with the I&E in the first place is now firmly considered to be an Angel :A if we had used our figures the IVA payments would probably have been doubled and we would not have had any savings behind us at this stage. Her figures gave us allowances for things like clothing that we never spent but saved instead.

Thanks for for the links I'll check them out.

I'm sure their actions are legal, there's been enough meetings in the last few weeks that I know they have done just about everything to keep going and are doing everything exactly as has to be done.

The insolvency people were in on all sites on Sunday gutting the assets. Boss didn't really have to say much to me, the state of the office (no phones, chairs, PC's, workshop cleared, work van missing) and the look on his face as I walked through the door a 9am told me everything.

Still it was strangely peaceful for the few hours I was there chatting with him, filling in forms and giving him and the IP some information on outstanding matters that they wouldn't have know about but will need to deal with this week.

I've only worked there for 1 year, 10 months and 4 days so under the 2 years rule. I will be entitled to unpaid wages plus holiday and I believe 1 week notice. All applied for via a RP1 as the company is insolvent. I need to find out how much checking is done with these forms as I think I've made a mistake on it. :(

We both have IVA's and are only 20 months in.

  • ok, I'm sorry that none of that is good :( 20 months in you aren't going to get Payplan to propose that your IVAs are completed.

Your priorities at the moment have to be food, utilities, necessary transport, council tax and of course the mortgage. Your IVA payments don't feature in that list! Unless you are absolutely sure you can walk into another good job easily, don't use your savings on making the IVA payments. And don't borrow from family either. Better to take the payment break, this IS your rainy day.

I made sure I covered all the essentials.

Sometimes you have to wait and see if the rainy day is going to be stormy or just showery ;) in our case it's just been a bit showery this time.

Got a job offer but back to pre promotion wages and a 20 miles each way trip instead of a mile. :o

Contacted job agencies to say I was withdrawing from open applications when a company came back to me. Was told I was their only short listed candidate and was offered the job on the back of my CV without an interview

It's closer to home, about 2 miles away and an amazing role. One I didn't think I had a snowball in hell's chance of actually getting and the best bit - it's an increase of 12% on the salary I had pre redundancy

Didn't take much to convince me to change my mind. :rotfl:

Just got to work out with payplan when I'll need to do a review as it's a temp to perm role so will be paid weekly to start with but at a lower salary than when I go perm in three months time.

:rotfl: certainly has been rollercoaster month but quite pleased it only took me three weeks to get two job offers ;) !

Payplan have asked for a budget review as soon as possible but as before say it can't be done until I establish my wage, inform tax credits and get a confirmed award notice from them.

So before I could do a budget review the rollercoaster rolled a bit more!

The temp role was downgraded and the pay cut by 1/3 :( I decided not to go for the new role as it seemed to me to be a pure cost cutting exercise as where the previous job role said 'manage' the new role said 'supervise'.

So it's back on JSA and job searching again, getting quite good at it :rotfl:

Hubby has a phone interview with Payplan next week but have an interview this week and am awaiting on feedback from an interview last week so hopefully will be able to tell Payplan I'm back in work - again.

Strange thing is that although it's been a tough couple of months it's nothing like the stress pre IVA. I guess it shows for us the IVA was the right thing to do :)

    Hi ami66

What a turbulent few months you have had. It seems that so far you have been very good at picking yourself up off the ground, so good luck with the latest job search.

I'm pleased to hear that so far the IVA has proved "resilient" in the face of all this upheaval. Long may that continue.
