Entered dro, now southern electric wont allow transfer

Hi all, will be grateful of any advice.

Brief outline:

Entered a dro which was signed off about 2 weeks ago. 15 creditors named on it, one one Southern Electric. This was my energy supplier, doing gas and electric.

When the dro was approved, the gas and electric were about to be disconnected. I applied to another supplier, to take over the supply. They haven't objected yet to the order as far as I am aware.

However, I've received a letter today, stating, in there own words:

As there is a outstanding balance on your account, we have had to prevent the transfer from going ahead. To allow the transfer to continue, the balance must be paid in full.

The whole balance is included in the dro? Are they saying, that unless they get their money, I can't leave them? Even though the whole balance upto the approval date was included?

    Hi,

Your debt isn't written off until you reach the end of the 'moratorium period' - which is one years time.
Until then the debt still exists, but no one can take action against you for it.
You should be able to move after a year (I have seen some allow it before)

    Thanks for the reply,

So I just have to continue paying them for gas and electic used after the order date, until next march? And then I can leave and get a cheaper tariff?

If their amount in the dro was overstated by £10, (estimated bill went in as they wouldn't provide a figure) can I knock this off any payments due outside of the dro?

That sounds about right. I am assuming that you owed them >£500 in order for them to be able to block you from switching supplier? Where you are blocked in this way, the supplier has an obligation to give you advice on debt management, energy efficiency and the best tariff available to you.

Only the correct amount owed at the start of the DRO is frozen under the "moratorium". The supplier is entitled to recoup the £10 even though they failed to provide you with the correct figure at the time.
