Santander overdraft charge - no warning?

Hi all
Logged onto my Santander accounts earlier to find I had had 2 charges from Santander for going into my overdraft at the beginning of last month. 1 payment is a unarranged overdraft usage of £5 and the 2nd is paid transaction card payment charge of £25.
I accidentally used the wrong card when paying for shopping and when I realised I transferred money but obviously not in time
Anyway that a side I've had no warning or notice off them wanting this money off me so today I logged into my accounts to see again I'm in my overdraft as they've taken the money I mentioned (I've since started a new job and get my money paid into a different account and am in process of closing this one) which has really messed me about..
I'm going to call them Monday to discuss the proceedings however what I need to know is. I've had no statements or letters saying I've goe into my overdraft and I'm going to be charged etc. Should they do this to make people aware and thus budget or can they just take the money when they want without warning or notice
Thanks
Matt

I thought they had to write to you giving you 28 days notice of the charges and the date they would be taking them out. If you've not received such then I'd ask them.0

Have you checked your online statements?0

The notification of fees/charges is usually on the monthly statements. Have you checked yours? They should be online, under "e-Documents".
I think you can also register for text alerts, e.g. when you balance drops below £x. This won't help with what's already happened but could be useful in future.0 -
If its your first time incurring charges its worth asking for a refund. I got one last month. I had accidentally gone overdrawn by just a few pounds of 3 days. They refunded but said hey would not do it again. They also send a rather condescending letter advising me how to no go overdrawn!
I have organised a overdraft with them now just in case it should happen again.
You can just message them form your online account.0 -

I always had paper statements off them so I can always check my accounts to make sure everything's ok. If I didn't I'd probably forget but last months hasn't dropped and I've had nothing stating I was going to be charged ..
Last time this happened was about 3 1/2 years ago and I received a letter then stating I'd gone over and would be charged but nothing this time.. If I hadn't of logged in to check my credit card balance I wouldn't of realised I'd been charged0
