instructing solicitor taking a while

i had an offer accepted on a property some time ago now. I instructed a solicitor quite quickily.

i have not had any information from the solicitor. I spoke to him on Friday and he said i should get some information soon.

i read in a book that i should receive a draft contract before the full contract. However, the solicitor says i will get the full contract straight away. Is this normal?

what information should i expect with the contract? How long does it typically take to receive this info after instructing the solicitor?

You made an offer (buying) or accepted one (selling)?

Get a book (free from your library) on buying/selling property to guide you through, and explain each step.

Your solicitor will be doing a load of stuff behind the scenes - he'll send you what you need in due course.

Have you signed the solicitor's contract &/or terms and conditions?

You may well get the 'full' contract 1st time, but of course you need to check it before signing. Any errors, tell your solicitor and it will become a 'draft' and he'll send you a corrected one.

The info with it depends if you are buying or selling.

If a mortgage is involved, is your solicitor also acting for the lender? Does the fee he quoted you include this?

I seem to remember when I sold my last house I never received a draft contract. Also in my experience solicitors don't tend to rush (generalisation I know).

That's a very polite way of putting it  When I moved last year I was very lucky and had a very efficient solicitor, and even she was amazed by the speed at which my vendor's solicitor moved...

What specific information are you waiting for? Or do you just want reassurance?
